UHC Insurance questions * Newbie *

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!! Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place but im new here and still haven't gotten the hang of how to use this . I'm Leeya 22 from NJ I went for my gastric sleeve surgery seminar yesterday and was given some paperwork to fill out . I'm now extremely overwhelmed if I won't get approved by my insurance because of the questionnaire form. My Bmi is 49 I have asthma and have always struggled with my weight from dieting on my own . Diet pills . smoothie , salad diets you name it . As I began to read a lot of threads online most people have more to add to their medical history and why they may want or need this surgery I'm worried if I won't qualify with just my bmi being higher . ANY FEEDBACK WILL HELP . AGAIN SORRY AND THANK YOU .

You'll probably will go through a sleep study, you may pick up Sleep Apnea, a lot if asthmatics c seem to have it, your BMI is v high b enough to be taken into account and your diet failures should count for something. UHC used to require a 6 months dietary supervision, but perhaps thats no longer valid. Hey if you want it badly enough, it will happen . Your surgeon and staff p,o how to work and dance the Insurance Boogie, I'm sure this isn't their first rodeo, after ALL Don't give into worry, it only tires YOU!❤ And anytime you want to talk there is always someone on BP who has been there and can help! I was an RnY, but many of my best buds were and are VSG and there is more in common than you would think! So just ask, anytime, any hour, I'm in Ohio, it's 4AM and I can't sleep. So I'm on here this morning to relax... . and slide into Slumberland.

I was told you don't need any comorbidities if your bmi is over 40

I have uhc and had to do the 6 months of dietary visits and my bmi is 41. I was approved after those visits and the psych evaluation. I did have to do the psych evaluation earlier though. I'd say month 2..

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
