Nights spent in the hospital after sleeve surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! I'm new here. I was recently approved for gastric sleeve. I am nervous and excited!

I was told that I have to stay over night at least 1 night after my surgery. Is 1 night typical or will it turn into more?

I live about 1.5 hours away from the hospital my surgeon performs her surgeries and have 2 year old twins. My MIL is staying with them and I told her it should only be one night. My husband is taking the whole week off to help me recover and take care of my twins.

How many nights did you stay in the hospital? Were you in a lot of pain? Can I hold toddlers afterwards?

I was in the hospital two nights. One the day of surgery and the following night as well. I had zero pain at all. No, you can't lift more than 10 pounds for 6 weeks post-surgery.

Same as Cheeseburgh. It was up to me, I could have stayed another night, but I wanted to get home to my own bed.

Jumped up on the surgical table around noon on a Wednesday and then got picked up to go home around noon the next day.

I was told 1-2 nights. I got settled into my room around 7pm the day of surgery so I obviously stayed that night. I was offered the opportunity to go home the next afternoon. I did not feel ready and I declined. So I stayed another night for 2 nights total. Staying that extra night made a WORLD of difference for me. I was ready to roll when I was discharged!

I should have stayed 2 nights, I was in so much pain. But they ordered my bed at 30% incline and I'm a side sleeper. I literally could hardly sleep, so I wanted to bust out of there. I slept much better at home, even in tons of pain.

I was in one night, they were threatening me with two because the pain meds made me throw up and I couldn't keep anything down but once they took me off the pain meds I was able to keep stuff down and they sent me home. You're probably not going to be able to hold toddlers afterwords. I was put on a 10lb weight restriction. I was in a good amount of pain too.

My surgery was on a Monday and I was discharged on Thursday afternoon. I had tons of pain so they kept me an extra day. I actually didn't feel well enough to go, but I kind of felt pushed to go home. I ended up in the ER the next day because of extreme pain. I would say my experience isn't typical based on what I've read.

Surgery was at 1pm. Stayed overnight and went home before noon the next day. I didn’t have any pain. Just sore. Welcome to the group!

I had a 2 night stay. I couldn't drink anything, I would become nauseous. I had to stay on IV fluids. They suggested I stay another night to get hydrated.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
