Nicotine (continine)metabolite blood test

Recommended Posts

My surgeons office called me to let me know that they are going to submit my paperwork for insurance approval. They told me that my insurance might request a nicotine blood test because I am a former smoker. Well , in two days I got the call to let me know that I was approved by my insurance. I assumed at this point that I didn't need to have the blood test done. I was told I'd be called in two weeks by the surgery scheduler.

Fast forward 3-4 weeks, no call. Nothing. No news, nothing. I call the surgeons office and am informed that I need to take the nicotine test to schedule surgery. 😠😠😠 Not a huge deal because I will pass the test- I occasion vape 0 nicotine just for the social aspect of it.

But what a waste of my dang time! I paid all of my surgeons fees and my deductible in full. How long would they have made me wait??

I keep considering switching surgeons because this office literally makes no contact with patients. And it bother me really, really badly. I don't have any crazy expectations, just reach out if there's a problem. I almost feel blind in this whole process. I am so frustrated.

I have a very complicated situation at work and need the surgery in May or June. And I am right in that window of scheduling.

Please pray for my patience.

Thank you so much! I had no idea that this process would be so emotionally difficult.

It is, and I know it will be well worth it in the end. I have to sign my consent form tomorrow and last blood work.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
