Spanx.....anyone wear them? I have a question.....

Recommended Posts

Hi all....

Sorry to my fellow Crazy Ates that this is also posted here in a general area as well as in our monthly forum. I'm trying to get as much insight as I can before the weekend (when I can go out and purchase them).

Not sure if you know what I am talking about....they are called Spanx....they are the 21st century answer to a "girdle". A bit more lightweight....perhaps a cross between the girdle and support pantyhose (best I can describe). They have a few different versions of them....hi-wasted, brief, etc. One of the saleswomen at the store where I shop was telling me that she loves them and highly recommends them. Since they do not sell them there, I know she was not trying to make a sale! Anyway, I am considering purchasing the high wasted ones to go under a few outfits I want to wear to holiday events. But, I am concerned about them hurting me near my port. Is that a silly question? I wonder if they hold you in so much (which would be a great thing!) that it would make that area uncomfortable.

Anyone have any insights to share???? Thanks!!!

I love my Spanx, , I have a few pairs, they work great under dresses and for my looseness,,,lol. ( Ive lost 87 pounds) and although I can wear a 16 i get hang over,, or " Muffin Top"

The Spanx fix it and there not unconfortable, even the higher power ones have a great accessable croch so you dont have to take them off and on every time!

I haven't tried them myself yet but I was just shopping two days ago and a saleslady was showing them to me. They feel like very thick pantyhose or supporthose and smooth everything out. I don't think they would be so tight that they would hurt the port area. They seemed quite soft and pliable yet they're suppose work wonders. Go figure! (pun intended :biggrin1:)

GREAT question...I was thinking about trying them too...my question is...are they true to size? Do they have a height/weight chart or run in sizes like jeans? AND can I TRUST the size (or should I go up/down)?

I'm with MM. I want to get one but I'm worried about the correct size. I'm so short that I usually have to get a bigger size because of my weight.

JLB - what store sells the Spanx? I've found them on the internet but would like to look and touch one in person.

Oh and if you use the internet - use shopzilla.com to search out the cheapest price! It's amazing what range they can come up with. I found some for $25 up to $50

Spanx are great and I have been wearing them for years. Follow the size chart and you will be fine. Be sure to hand wash and line dry to maintain their size -- they do shrink if put in the dryer. Try the Power Panties or Higher Power (Super Control) as a first purchase. If you like them, move on to the Slim Cognito line of products which "thicker" but hold you in better, but takes a bit of time to get used to.

I order mine from Spanx.com -- 100% easy returns if necessary.

I wear them and they run true to size, I get mine at Stein Mart for $9.99 a pair (they are usually aroung $20). Be sure to hand wash. The fabric is so soft they don't bind, even in the folds skin. I would recommend them to anyone.

If you go to Nordstrom you can try them on. I like mine.

FYI, I wore a corset under my wedding dress (couldn't find a bustierre in an F cup) and it didn't bother my port at all.

Lane Bryant has them as well. I'm not sure about Macy's. They are $25. Target sells a cheaper similar brand called Assurance (or something like that). They are $10-15 depending on the type (regular, footless, etc.). I have a pair of those and i like them.

I was in a wedding two weeks after my surgery. I was very worried about what I was going to be able to wear to hold me in without hurting myself. I wore Spanx. They were great. I was prepared to take them off right after the ceremony but I didn't need to. They held everything in place and were so comfortable I forgot I even had them on.

I bought them tonight (since the first event I have to attend is next weekend) at Coldwater Creek. I bought the ones that go from under my bra to my knees. I will give you all a review after I wear them!! Thanks so much for all the info! Seems like the ones from Steinmart cost the least. But, we do not have one on my end of town. With the price of gas, I didn't want to travel to the other end of town. I paid $26 for them. However, I spent over $100 in the store (can't help myself in that store) and they have a special giving $30 off. So, with everything I bought...let's just say I got them for -$4. LOL!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
