My doctor says I don't have to do the preop liquid diet. I'm worried. Will that make complications? I could do it on my own if i want to. Should I?

If you are going to do it talk to a dietician. The reason people do it is to shrink the liver to make the surgery easier. My liquid diet was supposed to be for 3 weeks but they moved my surgery date up so it was only 2 weeks.

Are you going through a Bariatric center in the U.S.? With a BMI of 67, you should most definitely do a liver shrinking diet before the surgery. You don't have a lot of time if your surgery is in 12 days. Be careful and make sure you have a bariatric team with lots of experience and knowledge. You should've been given all the tools you will need for both pre and post-op including a list of bariatric approved Vitamins and what can be consumed before and after surgery. Good luck and do as much research as you can in the short amount of time you have.

You’ll find that programs are different. My husband and I both had an RNY and his program had no preop liquid diet. They did find during my husband’s surgery that he had a fatty liver, but did not cause any issues with his surgery. The program I went through had a preop liquid diet. So I think you’ll find lots of differences between programs and their requirements and how they advance you with food. For example, my husband was eating scrambled eggs day 2 after surgery. On my program, I had another 2 weeks of liquid after surgery before I was able to eat soft foods like eggs.

Yeah I feel like mine is very different than every other person I talk to. As long as it all works, I guess I'm fine. I just like consistency so I don't get confused but oh well.

Thanks though!

I did not have to do one either! I was able to eat regularly until the night before. No problems here (:
