I'm so frustrated with my GI doctor

Recommended Posts

Why don’t you ask the surgery center for the name of a local GI doctor that has given previous patients a clearance letter?

My insurance and surgeon require my PCP to sign off. All of my GI, cardio, sleep study, blood work, blood preasure ect. Are forwarded to him to give OK on overall health.

Hummm, I guess I feel like they (your surgeon's team) are kinda just leaving you out there on your own. Insurance issues ARE part of the job after all.

Why do they want you to talk to your primary doctor about it? What are they expecting he can do?

Can the surgeon or his insurance team intervene by talking to your original GI to explain what is needed- maybe take some of his concerns away about what "Okaying" you for surgery really entails? Even send a general form from them with you that entails what "clearance" is needed? (Your original GI may be more likely to sign a form than give a blanket clearance of his own.) Maybe they can find and refer you to a new GI they know who will look at the records from your original?

Otherwise, you are going to have to get on the phone to the insurance and mega advocate for yourself. Call, explain, find out exactly what they need. Is it a clearance from any GI doctor? Can it be from an internist? What does "clearance" mean exactly etc. etc... Get it in writing.

Ultimately, you are going to have to be one squeaky wheel. It is discouraging and exhausting, I know. However, you have come so far. Don't quit. There IS an answer for this and I know you can find it. 💙 Forge on!!!

So I don't know what happened but I received a call from the scheduling department for my surgery. I have no clue how they got the clearance because I was still going back and forth with the drs office and the insurance. I have my pre-op appointment next Thursday and then the Thursday after that my surgery! Thanks for all of your input!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
