2 months post RNY- new pain beneath healed scars

Recommended Posts

My first post here 🙂

I had my bypass on January 29th and it was fine ever since, no discomfort in relation to eating or daily movement including mild exercise. But I'm experiencing new pain underneath two of my surgical scars by each side of my rib cage. I spoke to my doctor but he is not too concerned.

It hurts a lot just to get out of bed. feels like the fat beneath the scars is being torn when I move. Anyone is experiencing similar pain?

How do you deal with it? I hurt my ankle three days ago while exercising so right now have just been resting at home.

This pain around my surgical scar is not making things easy. Is this normal? Please share your thoughts and tips.

I'm from Hong Kong by the way, it's incredibly lonely to be an Asia bariatric patient in Hong Kong. I have zero bariatric buddy here, needs support.

I think those two incisions are the biggest and usually they have extra sutures that will dissolve over time. Some people experience a pop or snap as they weaken. The extra sutures are there to help prevent surgical hernias.

thankyou for your reply Ed_NW.

It starts making sense now but I didn't experience the new pain until the last two weeks. As in, from wk2-6 post-op, I was able to bend over and move around without pain. This new pain came back the last two weeks and it's at its worst today. It hurts so much just to sit and get up. I couldn't bend over at all today.

This is normal? I'm thinking if I should restart my pain medication...

Curious isn't it? Maybe extra stitching your surgeon put in on Surgery Day, now that you are healing it may be popping free? had. one girl on here, said when hers popped free it felt like being shot in the stomach with a b.b. Didn't ask how she knew what that feels like, we all had interesting lives before we got here, after all.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
