I had GERD before the sleeve surgery 12/11/18. It got worse for several weeks after the surgery. Now it's completely gone! I was taking prescription Omeprazole (generic for Priloesec), 20 mg and it was working. I don't take anything for it anymore and it doesn't happen anymore!

I had only occasional heartburn before surgery. Since surgery, if I miss a dose of omeprazole I'm in a world of hurt, and even if I'm taking it perfectly I get breakthrough reflux once or twice a week. I suspect I have revision to bypass in my future if this continues, but for now, I would say it's fairly to well controlled with medication.

I had occasional heartburn prior to the surgery (on 3/18) but the day of surgery and the day after it was absolutely awful. I felt terrible like I had something stuck in my throat and sitting on it too. I am currently post op day 4 and have been given a 30 day script of Omeprazole 40mg. I haven't had any acid reflux of nausea since. Hopefully I won't have to stay on this after.

I am 3 years out from surgery and the heartburn is getting alot worse. I have an appointment Monday and I am leaning toward a revision. I hope it gets better for you. I lost the heartburn for probably a year after surgery and now I live on Tums and yogurt to sleep.

What are y’all’s symptoms? I never had heartburn until after my surgery (May 3, 2018). I was on a prescription but they had to change it because it wasn’t for long term use. My new prescription was working but now I seem to have heartburn pains. I had started Plexus products and that was fine at first too then the heartburn came back with a vengeance. My husband was using Plexus as well and told me that he had been having heartburn problems since taking Plexus. We both quit a few days ago and his heartburn has gone away. Mine has not though. I get a weird pain in the center of my chest when I eat (not all the time but most of the time) and I have to wait before I eat more bites (if I even do continue to eat). I am very worried that there is something wrong with my sleeve. The only thing I’m doing different now is taking my prescription in the morning when the directions said to take it at bedtime. I switched to morning when the heartburn got worse. I am planning on taking it tonight as directed and to continue to take it at night. My sleeve was a revision from lap band that slipped twice. I have been so careful with this sleeve and now this!! I am so stressed out about it!!

Please let me know if anyone else has had these problems (whether with or without Plexus products). I am going to call my doctor on Monday to see what they recommend. My doctor is 3 hours away so it is a drive if I need to be seen.

I think we might have found some of my issues. I had a EGD and upper GI and it looks like I have esophageal motility issues. Basically when I eat my esophagus is not moving the food down to the stomach. Therefore its just sits there in the esophagus causing issues. They have me on a soft diet eating more frequently. I do feel better than I did, so hopefully I'm over the hump. They didn't directly say it but wondering if this was related to having the Lap Band on for a long time.

Bet it just could be, the kind of pressure messed something up a little.

May I ask, how long did you have the lap band?

I had it originally placed in 2005. It slipped in 2014, had it redone and then it slipped again in 2018. Revised to sleeve on 2/18/2019. Other than the slips no other issues that I knew of.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
