How are you feeling as date approaches?

Recommended Posts

Hello to all the fellow Dec. bandsters! This is my 2nd post, whoopee! I'm trying to catch on to how this works. I had to get my 14 year old to add the Merry Loser tag at the bottom, yikes! Somehow I'll figure out how to add Dec. 20th to the list because that's my surgery date!

I'm wondering how you all are feeling as your date gets closer. It seems so real now, I'm scared yet excited. Everything is full speed ahead, yet at times I think I'm getting cold feet! I'm thinking, can I do it........

It's so nice to read your threads and look forward to getting to know you! Best of luck to you all.

Now to answer your question...Well my date is 12/3 and I'm scared that I won't change my ways and give this the commitment it needs. Then on the other hand I keep thinking of how much weight I'm going to lose...I will make this work and make it a life long change....

Thanks Carolk1!

I will keep trying to get the Merry Losers tag. Technology and me don't mix!

I have the exact same concern as you. I'm trying to change my habits, I love how you have an exact date that you started. I'm cutting down portions, chewing well, eating slowly, etc but sometimes I worry that I won't be able to change my ways either. It probably takes 1 PB to make that change I suppose. I'm telling myself I'll do whatever it takes to make this work. I want this to be successful so badly.

All the best to you on the 3rd!

Carol, my date is very close to yours (12/7) and I have spent the last month trying to get a jump start. I keep telling myself that I won't have to worry about gaining it back like I always have in the past, but I can't seem to turn the "switch". I am so longing for the time when my word to myself MEANS something.

New - I can so relate to what you said...

Everyday I recommit to myself that today is the day I'm going to watch and exercise. It lasts for a short period of time and then I get distracted or come up with some GREAT excuse to not start.....Again, I just need to recommit again tomorrow.....

Boy, and here I thought I was the only one driving myself crazy with worry over the approaching "date". I tried to do the liquid diet on Monday of this week just to get a feel for it. I was sooo bleeping hungry by 4 pm I had my 'sensible meal' and then went on to McDonalds from there.. I was so upset. On Tuesday I ate 'sensibly' without the Protein Drink and did much better. Since I've so smartly gained about 8 lbs since October, I need to start my pre-op diet Monday Nov 26th with the hope of losing at least 4 lbs by Dec 10th. My doc says no more than a 5 lb wt gain prior to surgery.. I am such a loser!!!

I have gained many pounds since deciding I wanted to have surgery. It sucks! But Monday is a new beginning - pre op begins!

:eek:after reading post here about people not losing, are taking a year to lose 25 months I am a little worried I was a lot more confident until I started reading others. but I am a lot younger and more active them most of them, I wonder if its from them not changer there eating habits my Dr. said I should loos about 1-3 pounds a week if I don't its because I am doing too much snacking. so I am a little scare that I would be stuck with a port and not lose any weight but I am ready for the challenge

I am really scared of having complications since I am self-pay. If you are self-pay and have complications (infections, problems with surgery) you have to pay for those troubles out of pocket too. Most insurance policies won't pay for complications of surgeries that are not covered.

It certainly is helpful to know you are not the only one. I tried so hard prior to the actual start of the pre op diet. Just kept failing......:cry

Started Pre Op on Wed. of this week and so far so good.

I had gained 5 pounds at my last visit to the nurse on Tue. Think it was that last meal syndrome.....:hungry:

I bought some powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein supplements. Not sure if it is those or just the fact that surgery is about 11 days away and I am nervous as heck!!!

Keep reading awful stories that are scaring me a bit. SOOOOO I plan to try by best to do it by the book. Two weeks pre op for me. Clear liquids the day prior to surgery. Think if we all keep cheering each other on it will help:clap2:

Good luck to all :)

Glad to hear things started well for you Mejr62. I'm only doing pre-op for 7 days...So tomorrow is my truly last day of gluttony for ever....I must say I have eaten so well these past few weeks that I am really looking forward to the feeling of hunger. I haven't had that feeling in months.

Also, Mejr62 - stop reading all the horror stories. Why bother? you are going to get banded and that's that...No need to freak yourself out ahead of time. Everyone is different and experiences things differently. You'll have to wait and see how your body adjust to the band...Good luck on pre-op!

I started last Monday with 3 Protein drinks and a small meal (I've been doing Lean Cuisine because it's simple) . . . and am now DOWN 14 LBS . . . just since then! I'm drinking Water (mostly herbal tea and crystal light - but it's liquid) above and beyond the 64 oz . . . and something is working!

I'm being banded on December 3rd!

I'm 57 - started at 305 - I'm 5'6" tall . . . and I had to quit smoking cold turkey on Oct. 3rd because no one told me before that my dr requires 2 months smoke free. AND . . . they also told me . . . no caffine or carbonation from that point either . . . damn that was a HARD week - but I did it - and even though I'm hungry now - not starving at this point - I have a prize in front of me I won't let go of. I want it too badly.

I don't look at any of the problem stories - just look for the positive and know that this time next year I might not have to walk with a cane sometimes, and it won't hurt to stand up and sit down . . . I will be a new me!

It's going to be a wonderful ride! Grab hold and hang on! It's our month!

Chris

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
