Rant: MIL is obsessed with people’s weight

Recommended Posts

So this is just me ranting...I am not looking for people to tell me what to do or how to handle this, just figured it would help my aggravation to just “say” it out loud, if that makes any sense...sort of therapy for me. Lol. I dearly love my mother in law but she is ridiculous about people’s weight. I honestly don’t think there has been one single time in the 17 years knowing her that she has not described a friend or someone she knows by how large they are. She has no clue how much this frustrates me because if she says things like this about her friends, what is she saying about me??? I am actually not in a place that I care what she says I just think it’s uncalled for and I have mentioned it to my husband but that’s about it. I just guess I don’t understand why she can’t refer to someone as who they are not how wide they are. I refuse to tell her that I am in the process of surgery because she would likely tell everyone she knows and people she doesn’t know about it and it’s private, only my husband knows. So that’s it, thanks for listening (or reading I guess, ha ha ha). Hope everyone has an awesome first day of spring!!!

Do we have the same mother-in-law? Mine too! She'll talk about her friends, "She's as wide as she is tall" and "She's really large" instead of talking about their personalities or generosity or kindness and I can't help but wonder how describes me to others, probably, "My daughter-in-law is really, really big." It drives me nuts! She knows I'm a large girl, so how can she speak ill of other large people around me? Insensitive and unnecessary! And, to top it off, my MIL isn't exactly small herself!

Are you sure my mother didn't rise from the grave to become your mother-in-law? She was always on my case and even those of people she didn't know - I remember sitting with her when she was in the hospital once and she was complaining that she thought Rachel Ray was getting "tubby!"

Omg thank you! I’m so glad it’s not my imagination that people are this oblivious to what they say though I’m sorry you are in the same situation, it is so frustrating. Thanks for your reply!!

OMG. Mine too!!! Size wrinkles and even sex advice. As in what man would ever want to bed with her because... and she thinks of it as caring and love. Honestly.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
