You know... people keep saying to me (psychologist, nurse, dietician, surgeon, etc) that I am going to lose weight; that the expectation is I will literally halve myself. I just simply *cannot* imagine it. I can't. I dream about it, don't get me wrong, but... at the risk of sounding like a sad sack, nothing I try has ever worked out before, and I am bigger than I have ever been before, so how is this any different? The logical side of my brain knows that it will be different and that - because of what will happen, surgically - I *must* lose weight, but I just... can't imagine it.

My surgery date is the 18th. Because we're 16 or 20 hours ahead of you, my 18th will be your 17th, but I have 9 sleeps to go. Nerves are starting to ramp up, hehe... I guess mostly because I'm worried that I'm going to do do all of this, and still be the female equivalent of the Michelin Man.

Luckily, I quite like chicken broth, lol...

Before my RNY, nothing I did made me lose weight either. I want to reassure you, gastric bypass surgery does work. My surgeons, my nutritionist, my general doctor, all explained how, numerous times, and I wanted to believe it but you see nothing else worked before... so even though I badly wanted to believe it, I was mostly skeptical.

Yet here I am losing weight, and even more amazingly, doing that without doing anything to do it! Not consciously fasting, not exercising yet other than walking, not even thinking actively about losing. The weight is simply melting off. If I didn't see it with my own eyeballs in front of me, I wouldn't believe it was real. But it is. It's kind of numbing at first to watch it happening. You think you're dreaming. Then you get scared it'll stop and that's where I am right now which is why sneaking ahead on my soft food diet hurt me so.

The amazing weight loss WILL end. The first few months are called The Honeymoon Period, and there's a reason for that. We all have to remember that. And we have to do our part to help our surgery help our bodies KEEP the weight off. All a bypass does is reset your weight to normal, then give you a chemical advantage at staying there. But we all must do our active share to DO that staying there. The pounds fall off in a way that truly is a miracle. But if we screw up, they can return.

All this said, hang tight, trust your surgeons and see. Pounds will start melting off you within days of that surgery. You WILL lose weight fast. You will NOT believe HOW fast. It's jaw dropping. But don't rest on those laurels. Without our hard work, they can all very much come back.

Right now I'm in shock/disbelief period and so are my friends and family. My surgeon saved my frickin life. I can't believe what I'm seeing and I am going to work hard to support it. Weight loss just by breathing and existing?

It's true... until The Honeymoon ends. And it will. Then it's up to us...

How did your surgery went? Hope you're having a easy recovery.

It went well. I'm just starting to lay off the pain meds. I'm having trouble with my liquids and Protein though. But my doctor said that's normal the first week so I'm not so worried. It doesnt hurt much anymore so that's good :)

My date is April 16....congrats! I also will be traveling from where my surgery is to home and then for a family vacation. I know we should be mindful to keep walking as much as we can, stand, etc. I’m planning on making and packing ice cube trays of Soups and what not to freeze and take for my trip and of course Protein Drinks.

my surgery is on the April 13 and I am so nervous.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
