I'm stuck - What can do to finally have a bowel movement?

Recommended Posts

Today (3/20), I am 6 days Post-Op. I have kept up with ducasate and milk of magnesia, yet I have not had a bowel movement. I can't even eat my full ounce, because I feel full. What can I do do get things running again?

You’ll definitely need a stool softener, like Miralax. Call your dr office and ask if you can take Colace this soon. This is common after surgery. It takes a while for your bowels to get moving again.

You might need to resort to an enema or glycerin suppository if you feel the stool down in your pelvis and can't get it to pass.

Next step, suppositories, enemas and the Evil Cherry'tasting Milk of Magnesia. After that the Emergency Department and some of those people got big hands and thick fingers , Yeeouch! May the poo💩 be with you soon and then on his merry little way!

After how many days should you follow all of these steps?

Along with everyone's suggestions...I reccomend getting what's called "a squatty potty " I have one and it helps tremendously! https://www.amazon.com/Squatty-Potty-Original-Bathroom-Toilet/dp/B00ESKVN7W/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?crid=1KZW068HC90OT&keywords=sqattie+potty&qid=1553982129&s=gateway&sprefix=sqatt&sr=8-2

A while back Aldi was having a squatty-style potty, probably a knock-off. but they were asking only $9.99 for it. Of course I heard. about it when my local was depleted, but maybe I still will find one without going to the Amazon giant spider, I would rather find them instead of ordering, even if it is only a day or 2 delay. If I wasn't into Instant Gratification would I have grown into Obesity? Probably not!🍝🍕🍟🍔🍜🍰🍪🍦🍨🍧🎂Haunt me not, all you Evil things, you had me too long!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
