baribetty 165 Posted March 20, 2019 My mother in law is getting ready to have surgery and mentioned not being able to throw up, ever again, even if she gets sick. I’m 10 months post op, and went through months of pre-op education with Kaiser and I have never heard this?! I’ve also thrown up twice since surgery.... so, is this a thing for people? elcee 3,341 Posted March 20, 2019 It’s practically impossible to throw up with a lapband, I wouldn’t have thought the same was true with sleeve or bypass.
baribetty 165 Posted March 20, 2019 She said it has something to do with the stomach muscles.
MMME 89 Posted March 20, 2019 I'm 6 months post bypass. I've barfed, so it is possible.
FluffyChix 17,415 Posted March 20, 2019 I threw up once about 3 weeks out and it was not "that bad." Now, although I get horribly nauseated at times, I cannot throw up. I had RNY about 13months ago.
GradyCat 3,695 Posted March 20, 2019 I've not heard that. I've thrown up the "foamies" with the sleeve when I eat a food I can't tolerate.
Avery's Mom 315 Posted March 20, 2019 I cant throw up either. I heave and salivate like crazy but no barfing. it is brutal lol
Everything 388 Posted March 20, 2019 I am one month postop sleeve and I cannot throw up. I actually tried yesterday after getting nauseated by a new food I introduced. I am only able to dry heave which is a little unnerving
domi 237 Posted March 20, 2019 Probably TMI...but I feel I'm among friends here. With the sleeve, you don't create as much bile. You can still throw up, it's just different. I had food poisoning and it was hard and different, but I was able to throw up. Instead of a liquid, I had more of a foam. It seemed to take a lot more out of me physically. My entire body hurt the next day.
ratboy3124 30 Posted March 21, 2019 I have yet to throw up since I have had my sleeve, but I never really threw up anyway. I know that people with they bypass can not throw up. I've listened to my wife do the dry heaves more than once LOL! And she had the bypass.
CurvyMom 386 Posted March 21, 2019 Well, I certainly can throw up- and have done it A LOTTTTTTTT....ugh. But it isn't as bad as I thought it might be. Hopefully I am about to turn a corner and won't be doing it much more if at all!
Bigman12345 58 Posted March 21, 2019 I threw up about 2 months out, first time trying fish after the surgery, i felt way better after I did, it wasn’t hard at all and I didn’t have pain after. I knew it took me almost 9 months before I could burp properly though.
