Maybe I'm Being Sensitive, But...

Recommended Posts

I went to dinner the other night with a group for my friend's birthday. Some of his other friends there that I didn't know, which is great, and I ended up sitting across from one of his male friends that I didn't know. Well, this guy started going on and on about a girl that his buddy is dating. He kept going on about how "big" and tall she is. He also mentioned that she weighs 25 pounds more that his buddy, who weighs 150. I finally said "um, what's wrong with being a big, tall girl". He didn't really reply. I don't think he meant anything by it, but I found it incredibly rude, and it's been bothering me ever since. I'm 5'10". I was wearing heels that night, so I was over 6', and I weigh 241, so the fact that he kept going on about how big a 175 pound woman was made me mad.

He shouldn't have continued down that thread of thought out loud . . . People can be insensitive.

Some people engage their mouths before their brain!! Don’t let it bother you!! This says WAYS more about him than it does about his friend’s girl!!

Also, guys have absolutely no concept of weight on a woman. 25lbs to him could easily be 50 - 100lbs in reality. Honestly, that's even more insulting but that's the way people are. I wonder if he was just insecure. 150lbs is kind of small for a guy. *Smirks* To me, anyway. So....reverse judgement go! :D

I always think it's funny when Abraham Lincoln is given credit for this and many other quotes but it is true.

This plus infinity.

Reminds me of a convo I’d overheard back in my college days between 2 frat boys.
They were being disgusting talking about women that had been to a party recently and one of them was giving the other one a hard time about being with the “fat” chick.
He literally said “ she was so fat that she probably weighed over 125 pounds”.

Now at this time I was 20 years old, 5’7”, and was rocking a size 6 and carrying 135 pounds and hearing this made me want to hide before they realized I was sitting on a bench on the other side of the hedge.

I was 135 pounds and felt “shamed” because of this convo between 2 pea-brained, immature idiots.

It’s soooooo wrong of me, but I really hope those guys are severely obese and bald and have ED.

How crappy, rude and insensitive. While It is true that men see size as very different than women do and have NO CONCEPT of actual weight, STILL no excuse to be judegemntal and rude.. so the BIG GAL he is speaking of could be 100lbs or 200lbs.

you have very right to feel offended. At 5;10 (but I used to be 6'0" until I got old and shrunk) I feel your pain.

I'd just feel sorry for the rude guy. He must feel envious of his friend in some way, or he wouldn't resent his happiness. You've gotta pity the sad twonk!

Sorry. We have all been there. We are hard enough on our self that we don't need to hear it from a ……. or even from our family. I'm with you I would have say something about it also, because if we don't the bad behavior will continue. And that's on their up bringing being taught to them it's ok.

Avery's Mom , you still haven't shrunk as much as me , 5ft11 and 3/4 in my flaming youth, 5ft8in in my half- burned charcoal days, but still it does beat being dead and buried, and as I sink shorter I can look more people in their beady little eyes, now I don't have a forest of the top of people's heads. See it's all in how you look at things, but it still is a good old life!

And of course, being Mamma you were elected to clean it up. I once observed a job that needed done, asked a co- worker to assist me. Her answer: if it bothers you that much, you go ahead and do it and I'll just watch from my seat. Grrr!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
