Sudden reduction in eating capacity 8 months after RNY

Recommended Posts

Since yesterday I’ve only been able to eat 1/3 to 1/2 of the portion sizes that I’ve been able to eat for the last 5-6 months. 1/4 cup and I’m done. No pain, no acid, just a very full feeling. I haven’t changed what I’m eating (firm oatmeal, rotisserie chicken breast, cauliflower, broccoli...). I simply can’t eat as much of it at one time. I don’t think this is anything as serious as a stricture because I have no difficulty swallowing Water or my giant Citracal Calcium pills.< br />
Yes, I called my surgery team. The PA will contact me when she isn’t busy seeing patients.

Has anyone experienced anything similar months after gastric bypass?

Well, hard to say. It "could" be something...but usually it's just a normal "small pouch day." Some of us get them more than others.

I personally think there is a strong correlation to a "small pouch day" and being dehydrated. It makes your new tool "stickier" and less forgiving IMHO. I also think you might eat something that disagrees with you and irritates either your pouch or esophagus or bowel and you get the same results.

Usually if it persists or is accompanied by acute or intense enduring pain, then it's something you need to call the doc about. But a stray day here or there where you eat less, is like a gift from God. :) But, you shouldn't have difficulty swallowing or keeping things down nor nausea with that...just my opinion.

I don't play a doc on the internet or tv. :)
