I have been super depressed lately, to the point I am feeling suicidal. It scares me bcuz I have no good reason for that!

I need my hormones checked. Somethings wrong with me.

Has anybody experienced this post-op?

My Dear, Please please call your local crisis line or go to your family Dr and tell them how you feel. My son committed suicide a couple years ago and you can't begin to imagine the pain it causes the people who love you. Please get help right away. Sharon

Yeah I am having terrible mood swings too. Yesterday I cried for hours and I'm on an antidepressant..

My friend had the gastric bypass and he said that I should expect to experience mood swings as a part of losing all the extra fat.

I don't know how true it is but he said that there is a lot of energy and emotion stored in the fat and as our bodies start to release the fat the energy and emotion start to come to the surface.

Plus we are not deadning our feelings with food anymore.

Nope....no PCOS...but thanks anyway. I just have a few things in my personal life that I need to take control of.

Good luck with your PCOS.

I read that weight loss releases a lot of estrogen in your system. Your body stores estrogen in fat, so if you lose fat, the estrogen gets released and messes with your body (your cycle, moods etc). That definitely explains at least part of the mood swings.

The other part is that you probably did some self-medicating with food, and you can't do that post-op, so all that anxiety gets bottled up with no release.

In any case, definitely get some help!! I'm working with a therapist for that very reason (and because I want to resolve some stuff I've never dealt with over the years).

Hang in there and know we're supporting you online!

Yep, I agree. I am still adjusting to many changes which have affected my mood. Both my band-doc and gyno agree that losing a lot of weight can get your hormones out of whack. So, please don't do anything harmful to yourself...talk to someone...your band doc, a counselor...SOMEONE because you don't have to suffer. There's a way to feel better, I don't know what that might be for you as we're all different. But, don't give up! You'll make it through this!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
