Hello all I had my surgery on 12-5-18. I started this journey at 363 last March I am now 280 as of this last week. I am losing my hair, honestly it’s causing me a lot of anxiety and depression. I am taking my Vitamins and drinking plenty of Water. I push Protein. I guess over the course of the last few weeks I am having a really hard time coping with the Hair loss. I also am finding myself picking at food I’m not allowed to have, I also get sick from doing it. I know, just stopping picking. It’s not that I’m even hungry I don’t have an appetite at all. Does anyone else experience this? I truly never realized how food is a drug until now.

It's going to take a while to overcome feeding our emotions with food but you're doing good so far, hang in there! I just started taking Biotin gummies to help keep my hair.

Now that I have made it successfully through the sleeve surgery and I am almost one month out, my new greatest fear is losing my hair!! I wish there was some sort of survey available to us or study or something that I could read that would give me some relief from the anxiety I have about this. I worry about things that haven’t even happened yet! I’m just wondering the type of surgery, age of the person, Protein, Vitamins, or perhaps other factors are at play. I have had numerous surgeries in the past and never lost one hair. My nails and hair have always grown long and thick. Just hoping that it is not noticeable if it happens.

I read one article it said people typically lose 5 to 15% of their hair. I’m sure this varies person-to-person. I have seen photos of people with large bald spots or very thin hair on top. I wonder what percent of people actually lose their hair after weight-loss surgery.... anyone know?

I’m not sure about percentages. I’ve taken Biotin for years for my nails and have always heard it will help to prevent Hair loss although the more I read the more I wonder. I just read this article

My surgeon didn’t put me a multi with Iron or an iron supplement but I’m going to talk to him at my next appointment about iron and zinc both

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
