Hey, fellas.
Figured I’d share my stats and experience, as it may help some of you.
Surgery was on 8/15/2018
SW: 210
CW: 125
That’s 85 lbs down!!
I do this by living a low carb, clean eating lifestyle, and on most days I attempt to keep my calories below 1000. Originally the calorie counting was barely a challenge, lately however, my sleeve has been able to accommodate lots more and...well...whoops.
I use the app Baritastic (which I recommend!!). It was a game changer for me. It keeps me accountable for everything I eat, drink, exersize...
oh exercise, I don’t do it. 😳 I try to do some muscle building about twice a week, as my muscle mass has depleted ssiigniificantllyy since surgery, but other than that, I barely work out. I’d like to start though. Maybe some cardio from this week onward.
I’m still pretty weak, weirdly. I was told a full recovery can take a year.
Fingers crossed.
HMU with questions.
I’m here for you, beautifuls.

Hey Becca - that is SO impressive! I'm 4.5 months out and have had to make loads of adjustments to my menu as I'm so hyper sensitive to any carbs / artificial sweeteners / pickles / too many calories (I'm currently on between 500-700 per day) yada yada yada ... and my body retains Water like a camel! (maybe I was a camel in a previous life!!). I think it's a combo of age and heart issues... now I have a thing going on at the top of my leg which might be surgery related as I had a catheter ablation 2 weeks ago and now I can hardly walk as it's so painful!! goddamnit... I'm hobbling around and need to look mobile before Tuesday as there's a lot going on in the office!!

Anyway, I've not ventured into the gym yet - so I will be very interested in how you get on... the equipment alone scares the life out of me!! lol it's so big and industrial looking and hostile ... ha ha... and the sea of people also freaks me out! there are always so many very fit looking folk and I feel like I'm a fraud to even think I could go into one of those places! yes, I know I'm a weirdo! ;)

Hey Alpaca congratulations on your journey so far. Don't let the gym scare you trust me it's not really that intimidating. Pick a time when it's not really crowded. My gym is mostly crowded in the evening so you can find out the peak hours. If you are unfamiliar with the machines most gyms give a tour and instructions on how to use them. You can also sign up for personal training . It can be expensive but they offer group sessions. Don't pay attention to those fit looking people just work at your own pace.

If you don't want to hit the gym there are loads of YouTube videos that you can do in the comfort of your home. Or better yet pick an outside activity that you can enjoy.

You got this!

Congrats! Fantastic results from all the work you put in. Maintaining is a different animal. Keep us posted.

Sorry to hear you are feeling weak. (Happens to some of us) We tend to lose muscle with the rapid weight loss. Exercise is a personal choice for each of us. Sadly, my metabolism is shot. Exercise throughout this process kept me in weight loss mode. 😀 I'm an old fart and in the best shape of my life.

Wishing you the best in the months and years to come,

Jenn

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
