I am 3 1/2 weeks actually post op from gastric sleeve but my question is about the IV they put on for surgery. As someone who has had multiple surgeries (I'm talking 35+) They have NEVER had this much of a problem. I have an extreme phobia of needles... but I kept it together as much as I could. And I didnt move... But they put in the numbing stuff and then the iv needle. But they tried.. NO JOKE for 15min trying to get the vein... Before ultimately giving up and going to my left arm. But now I have a bruise that just hasn't gone away. Has anyone else had issues like that?1552766323681.jpeg

I had an awful experience where they tried eight times to get the iv in and finally got it in on the ninth try ... several of those tries left bruises worse than that :( they lasted about four and a half weeks :( not pretty but they went away eventually. It should be getting better though. Have you met with the surgeon?

Yes. I’m a “hard stick”. Hopefully yours is just a temporary thing because you may have been dehydrated. Mine stayed bruised for quite a bit and at times itched. And I’m sorry, I just saw that you have a phobia of needles.

Yeah, I'm one of those who is hard to stick too and my bruise and soreness lasted for a month or more after surgery. Hang in there.

They had a student practice on me for about 15 min then he gave up and the regular nurse got it first try. He was really apologetic but I just laughed it off all the while freaking out on the inside. haha...

I have a bruised similar to yours that won't go away over a week now. My skin never bruised when they take blood or give shots & I kept wonder why it bruised n why it won't go away as well

My surgery was delayed 45 minutes because no one could find the vein. They even had the vein finder out and called in the vascular team. My veins are very very thin and extremely deep. It usually takes up to 9 times for a phlebotomist to draw blood - I made one nurse cry once because she just felt bad (I think she was a bit crazy though). But nothing anyone can do about it.... has to get in some way.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
