Symptoms after post op?

Recommended Posts

The team introduced me to who was in the room. The anesthesiologist was named Marco and I replied POLO! Lol (I don’t think they like that much)

I remember first waking up after my surgery and being in quite a daze. I told the drs “ I had a great nap!”

Later on in the recovery room one of the nurses repositioned my bed because my stats were low. I was still a bit woozy and found out that I’d been on fentanyl! My reaction got the reply from a nurse not to worry .... “it’s not the kind you hear in the news”.

Up in the room I got escorted with the bed up to the ninth floor which had a better view than my hotel! I was so glad that I asked for a private room. There was someone in the hall that was constantly asking for a nurse and screaming/singing away.

A few people came in to get me adjusted and hooked up to machines including one on my neck. That was scary. I could hardly move without setting one off.

Anyways later on the pain was unbearable. In my chest it felt like I could hardly breathe and my heart rate was a bit “tacky” aka tachycardia. After taking more pain meds it subsided. The bed was still quite upright.

My husband arrived to help me and helped me have some Jello (since the IV was in my dominant hand) after 1/2 I couldn’t eat any more. I was in and out of sleep and he said that he was going to leave. (It was only about 6).

The day nurse came in to check on me when I called about the machines going off. The pump basically only needed to be reset because of my movement. She told me that if that happened, as in if it starts beeping just hit the reset button.

A night a very young nurse came to check on me. She was doing the rounds and was a floater. She changed my bag and my IV again was going off. I tried to reset it. Nothing happened. Then I read what the thing said:
AIR IN THE LINE.

That’s really dangerous. If an air bubble gets in, it can cause all sorts of things including stroke. I knew this because of my medical background when working with people with disabilities.

She changed the line but it was still saying the same thing. The whole IV needed to be changed. Then I saw one of the air bubbles. It was relatively small and we were able to clear it.

The second one was dangerously close to getting into my veins by my hand. It was about a 1/2 inch long. All the flicking in the world wasn’t helping. She went to go get help.

I was worried that it was going to continue to travel but thank god a more experienced nurse came in to flush my IV. She explained that the first thing that she needed to do was this part (as in the part close to my hand).

The next day I was able to ambulate, pass gas, and use the washroom for the third time. (No 2) lol

They discharged me the next day and I only needed 3 oxys all together to get rid of the pain (which I think was from all the CO2) I took 2 that day and one to help me fall asleep the next night.

Other than that my food choice of a fruit bottom yogurt and stool softener the next day or so caused a terrible DS that night. I really thought that I’d flooded the bed from a terrible period!

Needless to say this mattress is getting thrown out! Went right through the topper 😳

So other than that... I’ve the case of the smelly farts from the Protein Powder and my choice of making a homemade cream of broccoli Soup that I didn’t strain. (I read afterwards how I could do something to my sutures this way) 😣

So far I’ve been able to tolerate a lot and have recovered quickly.

I lost 23 lbs before my surgery on a 2 week liquid diet to help shrink my liver. Now it’s only been 5 days and I’m down 5 more or so.

That’s my story so far... symptom wise.
Hope it wasn’t too graphic or gross lol...

Making home made cream of broccoli was the first thing I made post op too. I put mine in the blender and it was sooooo good after weeks of no REAL food.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
