I had surgery on March 5th. The last 2 days I was feeling a bit less sore. Today I am considering taking my pain medication because my stomach feels so tender whenever I move.

Has anyone else had this happen after they had already started feeling better?

it is possible you have moved too much? I had this happen after I thought I was all better and folded three loads for laundry lol I was super sore the next day. try a light heating pad and some Tylenol. take it easy!

Yes! I was on Tylenol only within 2 days of surgery, but by 7 days out my whole body ached and I was back on narcotics. I was sleeping too much and not breathing deeply enough, and had developed atelectasis (partial collapse of the lower lung space, precursor to post-op pneumonia). Once I realized what was going on, I starting doing the coughing/deep breathing exercises again, and the body aches went away.

Oh that must have been scary. I'm going to do my breathing exercise right now. I think I have been moving too much or in a wrong way. I did end up taking my liquid pain med and it seems to be helping

Yes, or I moved in a wrong way, this morning because I felt OK when I got up but I lifted my 12 pound puppy onto the bed an don't think I should have

That's probably it, lifting the puppy, because you're not supposed to lift anything more than 10 pounds for about six weeks.

My 25 lb dog made me lift her onto my bed the night I returned from surgery and continued. I just made sure to lift with my legs and contract my abs. Thankfully after shoulder surgery she learned she can jump from my couch to my bed so bypass should be easier. Silly dogs. We do what they want! My limit was walking her. If she went all Cujo I knew I wouldn’t be able to hold her well.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
