Kuri is not your best choice. Not a bad one just not your best one. He has had several patients get complicated its just that there really is noway to find out about them. He is very busy in fact you may not even have him place your band. Especially if you are paying a low fee. Its usually one of his associates. They come and go. A friend I know very closely went to him for an emergency unfill. No flouroscopy, used table in office. Stuck her thirteen times befor hitting the port. He is very popular with a group called OCSB mostly ladies and he also promotes the Bash. He is quite charismatic. But honestly thirteen stabs to find the port???

Hey just to make it more confusing for you. I used Dr. Kuri and it was a great experience. I have called him three times regarding question... just question about things you think of later. He ANSWERS his own phone after hours. He called me after returning home to make sure I got home okay.

So I don't think you are getting the right info about Kuri. I would say call the different offices and really do your research then pray about it. HE will lead you the right way.

Good Luck and God Bless You.

It can be very confusing! I can tell you what I did. I looked for the best credentials, and looked at the hospitals, then called and talked to the surgeons. When you talk to the surgeon ask lots of questions and find out what kind of plan they have in case of emergencies. Make sure they are equipped to handle what ever comes up. As it turned out, I had a great experience and a great surgeon. Good luck to you!

I hate saying this one is better than that one. Sux

To be honest this (the web) is not the best way to decide.

These web support groups are filled with

1. rookies

2. Dr. Promoters

3. Patients that tell you what someone else told them yadayada.

4. Also most folks online have not had a bad experience.

5. Most patients want to think their doc is the best and these folks are the ones you bump into mostly on the boards. Seriously.

Pick a couple.

Stop by for a consultation. No appointment. Then see who is there for you and what your experience is.

I do business in Mexico and live just a short distance from border.

I have met folks at the border and taken them over to see their Dr for aftercare/support/adjustments. This is just a favor a way of being a positive force in banded peoples lives. I have see it over and over that the so called always there team isn't. Sorry but its true.

If you choose dr so n so and get your band and have no problems then you will say to folks on the boards that he was great and never had a problem.

BUT!!! Get an infection deep in your abdominal cavity, with a fever and serious chills then show up on their doorstep. You will then find out what is up.

I personally know of a Unamed surgical team that taughts lofees, Dr's name is also the clinics name on their van ect. They took a married lady around 36 years and went to surgery. Simple easy no worries. WRONG!

Three weeks after being discharged she freaking died!

Turns out she should never have had surgery in the first place. But fee was lo and these guys have people that did not have problems chat that they we ok for them yadyada yada. What should have been done was preop test that meant something. Also a surgeon that made the decisions and not a business rep. I have seen more than this and it is important to do your research and to be honest the only way you can do that is to show for a consultation unsheduled. If your choice of surgical team is sound you will be seen and will feel that you are a patient they care about not a number.

Queenie, if u r still working on whom to go with remember what I said in the previous posts.

Most people on these boards have not had any problems so thay have no experience to draw on. Does that in and of itself mean their doc is a good choice? No it doesn't. Why? Because it is very likely that if you doc dejur is mega popular then he/she is most likely to busy to deal with problems. See there is not much profit in problems. Figures like this, quality surgery goes from 8500.00 to 12,000.00 in Mx. Takes about an hour. You talk with lead surgeon about ten minutes tops in most cases. Problems can last for hours with many phone calls, office visits ect. Do the math.

There is something many online experts don't know, ready?

The nominclature Doctor in Mexico means something different than in the USA.

Dr. Morales although a stunningly beautifull lady was tattooing eyeliner a few years back. Is she really a Dr. as you think the word Dr might mean to a USA citizen?

I just know I am going to get a bunch of flack for bringing this up but as I said Rookies Rookies Rookies. Getting one surgery in no way makes you qualified to say to a poor soul, that is open and trusting, go to Dr @#$%. because I did and they were great! B.S.

I know of another Dr. of the day that has more than three patients prepped for banding and he goes from one to the other wham bam see ya mam.

Also did you know the designation CIRUJANO does not necessarily mean this person is a SURGEON as you would expect in the US.

I am not trying to confuse you, really.

its just that Many folks on these boards should be asking and not giving info ...(wait and see the flack that statement will bring).

This is too easy. Of course I want you go to the Getbandednow.com site and go with them.

But thats not what I was trying to get across. If a person wants a "good" team they really should go and meet them ect. Yes I know thats easier said than done. I live close to the border and meet these people often. In fact I spent christmass eve with some of the Dr.s and families that you mentioned earlier. Does that mean they are the best? Maybe but I chose the people that I knew were more into helping and supporting their patients. Not getting more and more till they become inigmas of banding.

Look generally any choice will be ok but there are some that are just not safe, period....

I know one Dr. while his patient was getting prepped for banding she said she was scared and was having second thoughts about it.

This dr. stopped everthing and cleared the room. He held her hand and said" Lets let God decide" he prayed with her for twety five minutes holding her hand the whole time. Can't you just see a Dr. from Kaiser doing that? Well he told her to let God speak to her that their would be no charge for the room or Hospital ect if she decided to pass. He said he was going to go see some patients that he had worked with earlier in the week and said just to lett his staff know what she wanted to do. Now thats the kind of Doctor you should be looking for and they are down there in TJ. But you gotta go there in person. If you don't or can't make the trip then I suggest you go with a Dr. that has FACS after his name, Fellow of The American College of Surgeons, uses a second full surgeon in the O R as back up and has a Full surgical nurse and a full anesthesiologist thats four people not one or two and Getbandednow has a Emergency Cardiac specialist . Also they should not charge any deposit at all and should allow you to go home with no charge at anytime prior to actually getting your band. You should feel that you are the only patient he has that day and you should get plenty of attention before and after banding. Also his team should provide real support after banding. No extra charges. You see if the Dr's were doing that kind of service (and some do) there would not be very many people on these boards. Why? Because their Dr's and team are answering their questions for them. Don't get this wrong I love the boards all of them but sometimes people are asking serious questions of people that quite frankly are rookies and can only say what they "think" or what someone else has told them or what they have read online.

OK OK I gotta stop here cuz I don't want any one getting on my case. This is all just my humble opinion. After all I have been banded for over five years and have lost over 200 lbs. I have personally witnessed fifty five banding surgeries and over at least two hundred fills not all from the Getbandednow folks. There is a huge gap between , reputation, charisma, self promotion.advertising, fancy websites and competency. Again JMHO

you need to do research...LOTS to be honest. here in the states and in Mexico, you will find the best and the worst. i woundn't pay attention to anyone's claims on a bad doctor; do your own invesigations. some people tend to make false claims, others really push their doctors;maybe getting money out of it, and some are undercover patient coordinators advertising around. (there was a problem about that in an old 2007 thread...it got really nasty). this really helped me in with my research:

"How to research a Mexican doctor" go to:

http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f11/resea...s-101-a-43575/

that i copied from a fellow lbt member, wasabubblebutt, i haven't had the chance to thank her yet, but the above link really helped!

good luck to you

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
