3 weeks post op with reflux isn’t abnormal. Are you on a PPI? The EGD is easy but seems a bit premature. I’ve had a bunch since surgery august 2017 but I have severe complications

The doctors are sure why I have it so severe so soon. They just switched my acid reflux meds, I believe to a PPI. Seams a bit better today.

I developed a rare case of severe reflux- I had reflux prior to sleeve. When I had my sleeve my symptoms improved for a couple of months about 6 months ago they got so bad I was producing acid while I was sleeping. Because of the medication I was on I wasn't able to wake up. Once we got the EDG results, I had severe inflammation due to the reflux to my esophagus, and because of that it cause a restriction where my esophagus and stomach meet, it made it hard for me to eat. Within a week I was approved for bypass, I will be 2 weeks post op tomorrow. And have been reflux free.

It’s great to hear you’re reflux free. Mine is incredibly awful. Original sleeve surgeon basically keeps telling me to suffer so I’ve gone to another surgeon and will get bypass April 4. I just pray I’m in his 90% of patients whose GERD is cured.

How long did you have the sleeve for before getting bypass?

I had my sleeve in oct 2017. I started with issues about June maybe. July/aug it got worse. Had I known I could have went this route I wouldn't have waited so long.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
