Fazzini Bee 76 Posted March 13, 2019 I've been prescribed Qysimia for my 6 month pre-op weight management. I am finished with that and have been approved through insurance. Now I am just waiting for my surgery date. I don't know if I should keep taking the meds or not. I feel like it will help with the pre-op diet because I am not hungry at all while taking them. My surgeon is aware of the meds but hasn't mentioned.
KCgirl061 1,532 Posted March 13, 2019 (edited) I would get off them. They would help with the preop diet, but its manageable without. You wouldn't want the medicine to interfere with any drugs that your anesthesia team need to give you. The interaction between that and anesthesia drugs could cause an irregular heartbeat. If you do choose to continue to take it up to surgery day, be sure to let anesthesia know about it - its much more important that they are in the know than the surgeon. Sheribear68 3,201 Posted March 13, 2019 In my pre-surgery class, we were told to D/C all stimulant weight loss meds 2 weeks prior to surgery. You’ll need to stop it 1 Fazzini Bee reacted to this
