Dealing with long days?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm currently doing the medically supervised weight loss thing trying to qualify for surgery. My surgeon wants me to eat 80 - 100 g Protein and under 50 g carbs. I'm also trying to stay around 1500 calories.

Where I am having trouble is managing these requirements during my long days. I get up at 2:30a for work and get off at 1:30p. I also have class m - f that lasts until 9pm. I'm not usually in bed until around 10pm.

I'm not sure how to manage my calories during the 19.5 hour days. I usually end up meeting my goals around 4pm and then still have 6 hours left in the day. Even getting to 4pm is hard. I'm usually starving between my scheduled lunch at 7:30am and 4pm. There's not much room in the goals for Snacks, and the surgeon advised not to have them at all.

There are many foods that you can eat in quantity/bulk without going over your calories.Salads and veggies give you Fiber and help with hunger. Lean meats/dense Protein may help keep you more satiated. I eat 6 small meals a day and stay within my calories and macros.

Another option to try is meal prepping.

I guess we’d need to know a little more about what you’re eating on those days

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
