Insurance question... pre-op weight

Recommended Posts

I have Aetna, who requires a weigh-in once a month for 3 consecutive months with no weight gain. Does anyone know if this means each weigh-in must be less than the last one or if you just have to stay under your start weight?

Thanks!!

Call your insurance and ask for the wording specific to your plan. Everyone’s plan is different. Just call and get it straight from the horse’s mouth. I’ve heard some say they can gain more than 6lbs, while others say nothing about weight gain during nutrition. Best of luck!

I have Aetna and my surgeon had the requirements for Aetna. I lost 1 lb total for the 4 required visits with my surgeon and have since lost 8lbs in total. They did not stress weight loss but encouraged me to start to make healthy choices, exercise etc. Which I already do anyway and has lost 8 lbs in the process. You don't really get much information when you call Aetna customer service. I got all my best answers from my surgeons team, who are great with answering all of my questions. If you have a patient coordinator check with them, they are the ones who gather and submit all paper work.

Good luck

I too have AETNA and 1 week from surgery. My BMI is 35-36 and I have 4 cormorbidites. However one weigh in I was under the 35 like 34.7) and the clinic said if I fall under the insurance guidelines I wont be eligible. I totally panicked. My next weigh in was maybe 3-4 pounds higher. I was so used to Weight Watcher weigh ins that I figured I was supposed to try to lose. But for me that was an issue. But beware that you cant gain from your initial weigh in either. It was a bit hard trying not to fluctuate a few pounds either way. I really needed to talk to the clinic better at the beginning because they work with all the insurance companies and know well what needs to happen to get authorization approved. Best of Luck.
