Yes! And I have learned that every doctor has a different plan for different people. I was only allowed 3 Protein Shakes, one Protein Bar, and zero calorie liquids for my preop. A girl I know told me her dr wasn’t too strict about the preop and she went out to dinner the night before her surgery. I was SO jealous, but I had to realize that I felt that way because I have a food addiction, and I can’t compare what I need and what my doctor suggests to anyone else.

Keep a journal, note what is happening when you want to eat (helps you figure out if you have triggers) and countdown to surgery :) best of luck! You can do it!

It is very interesting how different surgeons want their patients to pre-op. My pre-op diet is Protein Shakes, sugar-free Clear Liquids, sugar-free, Jell-O sugar-free popsicles –that’s it. I am on day three, it is easier than day one. I know I can do it, it’s mind over matter. This is a lifestyle change. If you can’t hang with the preop, how are you going to manage the post op. 🤓

My pre-op is 3-4 oz Protein and 1.5 cups nonstarchy veggies at each meal. One or two meals a day can be subbed with a low carb Protein Shake.

My diet is Breakfast: Protein Shake, Morning Snack: fruit, not to exceed 1/2 cup, Lunch: Protein shake, Afternoon Snack: Protein Shake or 6oz FF Yogurt, dinner 3-6oz Lean Protein and steamed veggie or garden salad with light vinaigrette, Evening snack (optional): Protein Shake.

It starts tomorrow for me, I am a bit nervous about it, but will be fine. I'm happy i'm not fully limited to liquid until the night before where it's all clear liquids.

Good Luck everyone!

Day 6 of my 14 day pre-op diet. I can have 3 Protein Shakes a day and as much 'clear' liquid as I want. Mostly I eat sugar free Jello and popsicles with some chicken stock at night. Considering I'm taking in less than 500 calories a day, it's been surprisingly easy. I'm not constantly hungry and really only get a little hungry come meal times. The only complaint I have is I've lost zero weight. Which is kinda disheartening :(

Mine is the exact same. I am on Day 1. It's not been too bad so far but I know tonight and tomorrow will be challenging. I think by Friday and Saturday I don't think it will be bad at all.

7 servings of Optifast, no more than two cups of watery veggies. No more than two sugar-free popsicles. I've lost 15 lbs since Monday.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
