Mine allowed diet soda also, pre and post op. They said the idea that carbonation stretches the stomach has been disproven. That being said I don't touch the stuff because it tastes too sweet to me now.

Soda should be the last thing on your mind, why spend all the time and money on surgery just to go drink soda, you have to change your whole lifestyle and outlook otherwise you will hinder your weight loss from day 1...
