3 month post op. Although I am losing weight and finding my clothes becoming looser, I still have this feeling of shame / embarrassment and thinking how shameful I feel of putting on so much weight in my late twenties. Only my parents know what surgery I had and I didn’t tell any of my friends. I’ve told them I’m on a diet. Was feeling little bit like my normal self yesterday until i was asked out for a meal with distant family and realise I can’t go as I can’t eat much.

Anyone else feeling anything Similar?

You can always say you have changed the way you eat. Plus you can take a doggie bag home. I told my best friend that I was having surgery and I felt she was a little judgemental. I said to myself whatever. It's funny because she has never been skinny ever and I only started having weight issues after having children.

You have to live your best health for you.

Half way into the meal just say “something is upsetting your stomach” or “tastes funny” or something.

No reason to feel guilty. You've made a healthy decision and you're going to benefit from it. I just made it through a two week cruise eating very little with friends and explaining that I'm "on a diet and trying to lose weight" which was all it took to satisfy their curiosity.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
