RiaR 30 Posted March 7, 2019 I am wondering what the best exercise would be to get my muscles toned and belly back in. Also how long did you wait post op to go back to the gym. I am 9 days post op and sitting and walking are about the only things I do at the moment. Sent from my SM-G950W using BariatricPal mobile app
GradyCat 3,695 Posted March 7, 2019 You can do cardio, treadmill and bicycle now. You can't lift more than 10 pounds until your f/u appt. with your surgeon and then be careful with resistance machines and increasing weight too fast.

wjgo 272 Posted March 7, 2019 There is a fitness topic you can post in.One can not target a specific area to loose fat from, your body decides, and your abdomin will probably loose the least proportion of excess weight as compared to other body areas.9 days might be a little two aggressive for any exercises that stress the back or abdomin. I would wait a little while longer. Lifting weights will need Water. So make sure you can get all your Water and Protein in. I remember it was still a struggle that soon after my surgery, if I did not start early enough, I'd run out of time. One activity that opened up to me, that totally godsmacked me was running. I f'ing hated walking, let alone running - science and engineers created bikes, airplanes and cars for that. But I got motivated and trained myself to do 5k's the summer of my surgery. It's a great free way to burn in some cardio, it's free and can be done anytime and anywhere with the right clothing. But in order to train for a 5k, you need to be able to walk it. So keep walking so you can do 3 miles in case you do want to train for a 5k.Sent from my ONEPLUS A6013 using BariatricPal mobile app 1 Healthy_life2 reacted to this

Be consistent with whatever you choose for activity/exercise. Your fitness goals may develop and change with time. Congrats on your surgery!
KateBruin 344 Posted March 9, 2019 I walked for the first 6 weeks then I hit the gym hard. Did 10 HIIT classes a week plus Pilates 3x until I got a hernia and tore both my shoulders. Start slow. I was working out like a monster before so I had the good muscle memory but was weaker from lack of exercise and reduced energy from such low caloric intake.
