One n half days till surgery and.. I failed :(

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone x

my surgery is on 1 n half days, and I fell off the wagon so many times on my pre op, mostly not badly thankfully but once was, I’m on my feet all day running around and feel so faint, I should of booked these days off of work (I’m leaving this work place soon after surgery thank goodness!). But anyway now I’m so scared my liver will be too big, I’m not eating anything else until surgery.. but gah I’m so scared and so mad! My dietician said she’s never heard of that happening but people online have.. idk if my liver is currently big or anything not had a test that shows.. just.. any advice? I feel so numb and lost and scared that it’ll be too big

5’5” 316lbs (was 326lb before started pre op x)

Good luck. From my understanding, if you're liver is too big when you get in there, they'll still do the surgery except it'll be an open surgery instead of laparoscopic. But maybe you didn't do as bad as you thought? Good luck!

I bet it's not as bad as you think. I had to do liquids, but only for like 2 days before the surgery, and before that, I just ate low carb for a couple of weeks, and my surgeon complimented me on how my liver shrunk. So, don't fret. I think you'll be okay.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
