Sure no problem. I love to look at the before and after pictures. It's so amazing to me to see the people who had a lot to lose who are now at their goal. It's possible with the band. There are so many people who say that you can't lose all your weight with the band. That is just not true.

If you follow the rules, and don't eat junk food, the band keeps your portions small and you lose! It's so great!

Ok I did it; I have my mental evaluation on Monday next week and my nutritional evaluation this Wednesday. I have decided to do this, not because it is an easy way out (because it is definitely not going to be easy) as my boyfriend has stated. I have chosen this because I have 6+ relatives who are obese, 1 with diabetes, a few with high blood pressure and some of the other fun stuff obesity causes. I have been fighting this issue my entire life and I have selected to take further action to help lead a healthy lifestyle… and boy I’m frightened.

I have read a lot of information and watched the actual procedure via a few links provided, I understand what is going to happen but I still have a lot of questions (don’t we all) I have a coworker who has been on this for 2 years and swears by it, she is going to be one of my #1 supporters (so I believe).

My partner may not agree with it (he is indeed blessed with the metabolism of the gods) but with how long I have struggled with weight and once he also becomes educated; maybe then he will understand. I love him for loving me how I am, but I want to be able and go hiking with him in 10 years.

I think one of my biggest fears is not being able to qualify; I have a BMI of 41 so I am on the edge of qualification. Another fear is simply being cut into. How have other people coped with these oncoming fears?

Loup

Hi Loup - while my husband is supportive he was for sure uneducated. We took a mini-break before I go back to work tomorrow this weekend and he read my book about what is going to take place diet wise. He is more supportive now then he was. He said he just thought my portions would be smaller but that I would be able to eat all the same stuff right away. I am glad he took the time to read it.

Can you direct me to the links of the procedure you mention. I haven't found them and woudl love to watch it. Julie :-) :help:

Not sure if this link will work but this is the link to the topic:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
