I am new to the site. I had initially logged on because I wanted info about shoulder pain. My first cuple of days were ok, then I started getting sick of the boring liquids and not being able to take much in. Now I am even worse, I have bad shoulder pain when I eat, move, breathe! I called my doctor and am waiting for a reply. I am trying to hang in there!:cry

the shoulder pain is from trapped air from your laproscopic surgery, it will get better. Try a heating pad. The best thing you can do for it though is to take short walks as you can tolerate. I am six days out and mine was finally gone yesterday, but I have had laproscopic surgery before, so I know what it was. Stick to the liquids if that is what the Dr. has told you, it may be boring, but it is much less painful and dangerous than eating too soon.

Usually after a few days the gas is gone but there is referred pain from a nerve in your diaphragm. It can hurt up in your shoulder and if you happened to have a wide hiatus or a hernia repair that will tack on a couple more days of pain in your shoulder and it can even go up into the side of your neck.

Walking, a heating pad, and Tylenol are what most folks do. But the gas should absorb in your GI system within 2-3 days. The rest is referred pain from the irritated nerve.

Great idea starting this thread!

Alexandra moved the FAQ to the top of the board, too. :)

I am six days post op and just found this site. My shoulder pain was excruciating but is now gone. I saw my doc yesterday - I was down 12 lbs... he told me to start eating soft foods - how long did others wait to transition to the soft foods? Were you told crackers were okay? Doesn't seem right but they are on my list.

It's funny how different doctors have completely different ideas of what you are supposed to be eating after surgery. I had to be on liquids for four full weeks after surgery before I could move to soft foods.

Where do you live in Arizona?

Hi Everybody, Nu- Life here

I was done on Monday, 2 days ago. The preparation, the surgeon, his team and the operation was a dream. I was sacred as I have not had surgery since I was 5 (now 38).

I had to stay in bed for about 12 hours till the anathestic and morphine wore off, then I was up and into a walk around the ward corridors.

They let me out yesterday afternoon, last night I felt the first signs of pain. 5 hours sleep last night up at 4 this morning, Im an early bird anyway. This morning (7hrs) I have had one orange (juiced), 1/2 ltr of Water, 2 table spoons of live yoghurt with about 7 smashed up rasberries. I dont feel the need to eat but I want to get some Vitamins and minerals in me.

Can anyone tell me is the bloating feeling normal, on my post operative diet I exercised and noticed my belly become a little flatter, but since the op I have noticed a bloating stomach and feeling ???

Good Luck to you all

Nu-Life

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
