Is anyone experiencining any pain from eating? This weekend I spent in pain. I was told to start on soft foods two weeks out of surgery. I tried soft food and I was in pain I kept throwing up. That was both Saturday and Sunday. Sunday was way worse. Now I'm afraid to eat anything.

Hi there! Firstly, very sorry to hear of your troubles with the vomiting and such. :( It's just awful, especially so close to when you had surgery!

I wanted to ask, when do you experience the pain? Is it literally with anything/everything you eat? Or, is it only with certain foods? I would get pain with eating when I ate a bite too much (usually in the middle of my chest or around my right breastbone area.) It doesn't seem like you are eating too much though.

Generally when you can't yet tolerate one stage of food, you revert back to the previous, so in your case that would be liquids (since you're on soft?)

Are you still able to drink okay?

Sometimes when the calendar says it's time to change to the next phase the stomach says otherwise! Just wait a few more days and try again. Go slow and let your stomach be your guide. It really is a trial and error process as to what your new tummy can handle at this stage. It does get better with time.

There were certain foods, still are, that give me the "foamies" of throwing up mucus but no food and those are just because I can't tolerate them yet. They include dense meats like steak and roast beef and breads. Otherwise I do okay with most foods.

Did you go straight from liquids to soft? Did you do pureed food?
If not, try to puree your food. And make sure it is moist.

Some foods I found to be good were chicken salad, chili, and fat free refried Beans with some salsa added, cheese and a little sour cream.

As a tip I would like to pass this on, I was told by my team to try new things individually early on. That way if it bothers you it'll be easier to identify. Hang in there, it will get better 👍

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
