Terrible Pain in left rib cage area

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I had the sleeve done on 2/18/19 and I still have terrible pain under my left boob, in my rib cage area. If I cough, I want to cry it hurts so bad.

Many say it is where the stomach was pulled at the largest incision, I can believe that. However, am I the only one that has experienced such pain at 3 week post op?

Thank you!!

Vikki

So sorry to hear you are in pain! :(

I wanted to ask, does it hurt when you breathe in or anything like that? Does it hurt all the time or just when you eat? I had a lot of weird pains post-surgery, but mine were between my shoulder blades in my back (and this happened weeks after.)

It could be something like that, but I would be wary since blood clots can develop (which is something I am always worried about, I admit.) If in doubt, I would say to call your team and talk to them or even see a doctor just to be safe.

Hi, I have clot issues and after my surgery I developed a pulmonary embolism (lung blood clot). It was unbelievably painful. They kept insisting that I blow into that tube thing with the ball and I thought I would die. I could hardly walk, sneeze, cough or breathe without intense pain. I’d ask, for sure. Took a while for it to subside with medication

Hello, did you find any answers? I am having a lot of pain at my left rib cage too, but I am only 5 days post-op. I am wondering if this is normal. Thanks.

Would that be near to where they pulled out your stomach of you were a sleeve? Maybe re- enforcing stitching there. Or the had to stretch the view port extra big to see everything in your abdomen?

That is exactly where my pain was. It lasted over a month after surgery and only went away when I started using Gas-x. My doctor wasn't concerned when I reported it since I didn't have any other symptoms. But let me tell you, it was excruciating at times. Definitely check with your doc because severe pain can be a sign of many different things.

I used to have pains there even before surgery, I went to several doctors to see what was going on. They all told me it was my ribs that were tender. I still get the pain here and there

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
