Hey! I had surgery last Thursday (so it’ll be a week in a few hours, lol). I had gastric bypass and I’m going back tomorrow. I feel great. Of course, I pushed hard to walk every hour as soon as I woke up and have been up and about every day.

And others have said this, but yes it depends on what kind of job you have. I’m a teacher so no heavy lifting, etc.

Hi thanks for replying , oh so you were well rested then.. how are things now for you ? @zombieskayer its not that long since your op is it ? I'm praying things will go smoothly for me

I'm a little more then 2 months post op. Work coming back the first week was hard because I was out of the groove of things and I went from basically being home for 4 weeks to standing 8 hours a day. I have issues squatting then standing up to fast (it makes me dizzy) but that's really it.

I had surgery on Wednesday and went back to work Monday. I had no problems, felt great. But I have a very sedentary job also. I just sit at my desk all day.

Hi! I am going to have gastric bypass surgery on April 2nd . I do not want to tell anyone either. I am scheduled to return to work 13 days after surgery. Can anyone shed some light on their experiences? I’m basically worried about being weak . Any input would be appreciated! TIA

@Feelinghopefulnow, I'm now 4 days shy of 4 weeks out of surgery. The first 3 days were bad but after that it's been pretty smooth sailing. No pain at all, like nothing's different really. Except I can't eat as much. I lost 15lbs straight away and was so impressed because I have never been able to lose weight. But then I stalled and and around 17 lbs lost now. The weight loss has been veeeery slow the last 2 weeks. But from what I 've read on this site it happens a lot so I'll have to be patient. I never have any problems eating though. I just stop when I think I've had enough. I guess around a cup worth of food at a time and I'm eating around 1000 calories a day.

I hope the weight starts coming off again soon though. It's a little discouraging.

@Foreversunshine I’m glad you’re doing well. Well done on the weight loss so far. Hopefully you will continue to improve daily. It’s great that you’ve not got stomach pain , I’m praying it goes as well for me. I’ve read lots of things here and the stall in losses , apparently its very common ,, keep going I’m sure things will kick in again and you’ll be slim and healthy before you know it.

Hi everyone , I'm not telling anyone about my surgery (sleeve being done 20th March) they wouldn't understand to be honest

Work will be told its a hernia or scar tissue adhesions from a bad fall I had two years ago .... that did actually happen so they know I'm hurting from that still . I was wondering if anyone went back to work relatively quickly after the op. if so how did you manage . I dont have anyone close to share this with other than my daughter who doesn't live close so I'll be going through it on my own. So any advise or support would be gratefulgratefully received.

I took a week of vacation and told my colleagues it’s a “staycation” so I would just be working on stuff around the house. That all they needed to know. A friend of mine is a nurse in a dr’s office; she had surgery on a Thursday, and was in work Monday. It depends on how you feel and your job. I used to be a music teacher and if I had my surgery with that job, I would have taken at least 2 weeks off. My job now is mostly driving and sitting so I only took a week. But the key is to listen to your body! I am not going to push my body until it breaks, and if I don’t heal well, it’s all for nothing.

I told my surgeon patient coordinator that spring break will be best. All I am saying at work is I am taking spring break off since my little one will be home as well as my college kids.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
