I’m 6 days post op from a robotic gastric sleeve. My large incision on my side is killing me. I cannot get comfortable in any position. I absolute can’t lay on either side. Sometimes it even hurts on my back. It hurts sitting up. I would expect the pain to get better, but I feel like it’s getting worse. That incision kind of indents in, almost like a stab wound. This is my sixth abdominal surgery. So I’m familiar with pain and recovery. I’ve never had anything like this. I mentioned it to my surgeon in the hospital. He said yeah that is where the stapler went in, it’s going to be sore. Someone please tell me it gets better!!! My back is killing me from laying on it.

I would check with your Dr. I had robotic surgery in Monday and I'm 80% better & have been able to sleep on my side for the last 3 nights. Are you taking your meds?

It was really rough though for a few days. I hope you get over this hump and feeling better. It sucks!

So sorry you're in pain. I've not heard of robotic gastric sleeve surgery. I had laparoscopic sleeve done and it went flawlessly. Get better soon!

GradyCat, thank you!

gabybab, I will call tomorrow! I’m not taking the pain meds as much as I should. Maybe I should and hope it will get better? I’ve always been a tough it out person.

One of my nurses said almost that exact thing to me post op when I thought I was being a weeny trying to sit up. She said, “honey, you’ve basically just been stabbed 5 times”. And yes, I’m still had pain in my abdomen for at least the first two weeks. And even after that during certain movements or just overdoing it in general. All of us heal at different rates but definitely take those pain meds if you need them. It doesn’t make you any less strong (just wise) =)

I had laparascopic gastric sleeve on 2/5/19. I am typically a slow healer from surgery, and usually need more anaesthesia and pain meds (some to do with being a pale redhead I'm told). My doctor sent me home with no pain meds, and refused to prescribe any when my husband phoned after discharge. I was in a lot of pain for that first week. It did get better. I am still really angry at my surgeon - if I was a drug seeker, there are easier ways to get meds than go through a 6 month programme and have 90% of your stomach cut out...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
