I’m freshly home from the hospital after gastric bypass revision surgery (after a failed lap band). I feel pretty bad still though. Wondered if others had similar issues after:

Diarrhea
Nausea
Impossible to sleep in a comfy position
Groggy and in/out
Trouble getting in the 4oz per hour

Would love to hear your stories. Also, what did you take for nausea? I have the omeprazole for the acid and am taking Tylenol for pain. But the nausea is pretty bad, as in the diarrhea.

You are going to feel a bit crappy while you heal. The pain is temporary, your results will be amazing. Rest up.

Yeah those first few days (even weeks) are pretty rough. Be prepared for the emotional ups and downs too. Surgery is a BIG SHOCK to your body and mind, so be kind to yourself and have patience with recovery.

I think they gave me a pill for the nausea but I can't remember what it was. It was different than the omeprazole though. I didn't end up needing it after the second or third day though.

I'm over four months out and so so so happy I did it. Maybe write a list of all the good reasons why you had the surgery so you can read it when you're feeling down. I'll post mine below.

My surgeon gave me a script for Zofran before I left the hospital. OTC you can try Dramamine but it makes me awfully sleepy. I hope it passes soon but everything you listed seems right on par. The first week sucks! Keep sipping =)

I had the sleeve surgery, but I had all of these symptoms as well for the first 5 days or so post op. Well, the nausea lasted a bit longer; I ended up having to be prescribed Zofran for the nausea, as it lasted a couple of weeks and I couldn't stand it any longer. I'm sure you'll be okay. Just hang in there a few more days!

I was pretty nauseous the first couple of days after surgery too. My Dr. wrote me a script for Zofran and it helped ALOT.

You are going to be tired the first week afterward. Heck I am 1 month post op and at the end of some days, I just go home and go straight to bed. But it will get better, I am sure of it. The body needs to heal after surgery and that can take a while.

I honestly didn't have any problems getting comfortable in bed after surgery. I slept on my side that night in the hospital. And since home, there is nothing more comfy than getting into bed in a fetal position with my heated blanket!!!!

Just keep sipping your Water every couple of minutes.

Scopolamine Patches are all that help my nausea. Little sticker behind the ear and it last 3 days. Can cause eye side effects and some others but I’ve never experienced it. It can be expensive. I think I pay $77 for 8 patches. Something like that.

Ive been home 1 hour. I've had a failed band and a failed sleeve. Just had bypass. My doc gave me a prescription for nausea. I'm taking extra strength Tylenol for pain
The diarrhea is normal since you have only had liquids. It will get better but you MUST get in your Protein and Water. Walking helps with the pain believe it or not. It helps to dissipate the gasses faster.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
