I Survived Eating On A Two Week Cruise

Recommended Posts

I'm so excited!

I'm about 12 weeks post-op gastric sleeve and I was worried about my pre-planned two week cruise and how I would manage to eat and stay on the right track. I was so good! I didn't eat a single dessert or Pasta or pizza. I had a cheese omelette every morning for Breakfast, salmon for dinner every night and various things for lunch but all making good choices.

I just got back late last night and weighed this morning and I lost 2.5 pounds during my two-week cruise! Hooray! I exercised in the pool every morning and did lots of walking and stayed hydrated.

I'm just so excited that I made good choices around all that ton of food on the cruise ship and still ended up losing weight! Hooray! Yippee!

Here's a photo of me from the cruise - I've lost 25 pounds since surgery 12/11/18.

Congrats! I’ve got one cruise scheduled next month, before surgery, and one in September. I’ve been wondering how I would handle the one in September. You’ve inspired me by your success and that you still enjoyed it. Great picture!

That's great. I am going on a cruise in November and have been worried. Mostly because in the past I have eaten a gluttonous amount, but I am glad you showed it cruising can be done with the right choices. You look great too! Thanks for the inspo!

I'm taking my mom on a cruise for Mother's Day and I was very concerned about how I'd handle it. Thank you for sharing your story, this makes me feel much better

Congratulations! You did so good. It can be a struggle to not give in to temptation while on vacation. (Didn't mean the rhyme).

Congrats!

We traveled on Cunard a few months before my surgery and I would have thought it’d be easy to keep on track on that cruise line because the portions in the main dining room were small and even the “buffet” was more of a cafeteria without a lot of serve-yourself options. Unfortunately the cruise lines that cater mainly to Americans are UNBELIEVABLY food-oriented.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
