Maybe it’s too soon to start worrying but I can’t help but feel disappointed. I started my liquid diet last Monday (2/18) and was sleeved last Wednesday (2/20) and have only lost 4lbs. I’m 5’4”, started at 235lbs (40 BMI) and 6 days post op only 231lbs. I get 64oz of liquids in, I eat anywhere from 60-80 grams of Protein, keeping my calories around 500, and started walking the day I came home from surgery. What gives?! Am I being too hard on myself? Am I doing something wrong? I keep reading everyone’s success stories and it makes me feel so disappointed. Any advice?

You're only 5 days out give everything time to heal and your whole metabolism to adjust

I've read many posts where people don't check their weight for weeks as everything has to readjust

I came home heavier than I went in. Then in week 2, 12 pounds were gone. Patience, my friend!

A lot of people come out of surgery heavier than they went in because of all the fluids etc that get pumped into you.At 5 days postop you shouldn’t be too concerned. Keep following the plan and the weight will start coming off

A friend of mine had WLS last month. He said the same thing, no weight loss and was disappointed. Well, fast forward one month later and he is down 30 plus pounds. As I told him, patience it will come and it did.

I had mine on Jan 31st. scale hasn't moved the past two weeks. It is frustrating as I barely can eat. Eating is a chore. But no weight loss :/ I am not getting 60-80g of Protein. Is this an issue?

How much liquid are you getting in on average?

  • Stop weighing everyday. It will drive you crazy.
  • Take measurements and pictures and compare these instead of only using your weight.
  • "Comparison is the thief of joy." Stop comparing yourself to others.
  • Your body has gone through the stress of major surgery—be patient with it. If you're following your surgeon's and dietician's recommendations, the progress will come.

I was also sleeved last Wednesday 2/20. I was losing more weight, faster, on the pre-op diet than I am post op. This first week was very very difficult for me adjusting. I have basically been living off of Protein Water and nothing else. I had to remind myself yesterday that even the little bit of weight I have lost was more than I’ve probably lost on my own without the aid of diet pills in years. And, that weight that’s gone- I’ll never see it again. So I guess Patience is key. Yes I was looking forward to that big first week of drop off in weight. But it is coming off slowly but surely and more importantly I am functioning better each day. I am not having pain every single drink I take anymore. That’s a win for me! Just try to stay positive and keep following your doctor’s directions. Like other said before — it will happen when it’s supposed to happen!

You may have stalled. I hit a stall 3 days after surgery and didn't lose a pound for a couple of weeks. I was super afraid the surgery didn't work, but it did! Search for "3 week stall" to find more info on it - yours may have just come early 🤗

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
