So my weight loss journey 6 months post op rny

Recommended Posts

So I will tell you a bit about me and my journey. I am a 27 almost 28 year old poly kink non-binary. Pansexual wife to a pansexual man of almost 5 years whom I've known my entire adult life. I've always been heavy. Both my parents had addictions. My mother passed away in January of this year due to a massive heart attack and the issues associated with that. My father was where I got the obesity from he's battled diabetes high blood pressure cholesterol for close to going on two decades now and had a stroke at 35. I when I was diagnosed with diabetes at 22 decided nope I wasn't going to be my grandma who had strokes and 13 heart attacks mind you she was a smoker. Or my father. I was going to beat this. So I took that nasty metformin. I asked and asked for anything better until about 3 years ago I was put on victoza. Mind you I started with a baseline a1c of 9.7 when diagnosed. This most recent trip to the endocrinologist my a1c was 5.1 so low that they are removing the diagnosis of diabetes out of my chart completely. So in September of 2015 I decided initially to persue gastric bypass. I would later around the time of the choosing of my surgery date begin to have a total psychotic break from reality. I had 4 trips to the psych unit in 1 year. And my marriage got very strained. I also got placed on SSDI disability because I lost the ability to fully function after a long two years of medical and mental battles I tried again this time in a much better place. I had been thru months of therapy I was stable on meds and in a great place. I had gastric bypass on August 28th 2018 I had a highest recorded weight of 311 I had started my program at 280 I had a weight the day of surgery of 274. My 6 month post op visit was Thursday of last week I weighed 210. I've lost over 100 pounds in a year.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
