Food Stuck ~help

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I had surgery on 02/18/2018 and was released later on Thursday. I am the purred stage and did well on Friday Yesterday I had some purred chicken with purred potatoes. I'm not sure if I ate to much or I didn't puree enough but about a 1/2 hour after I ate, I could tell the food was stuck. I drank a warm beverage and that seem to move things down. Felt ok this am and went to eat some purred eggs, I have the stuck feeling again just not as bad. I tried drinking another warm beverage but just burping now.

I assuming I aggravated my pouch. Any suggestions what else I need to do other than wait it out??

Thanks,

I remember that “stuck” feeling! I would suggest eating slower, taking smaller bites, chewing 30 times and adding liquid to your food before you eat it rather than trying to “wash it down” after. (Are you waiting at least 30 min after eating to take a drink?) I was so excited to have puréed chicken after my liquids phase that I tried it on one of my first days and it did not go down well! It felt stuck and slimed in my throat until I spontaneously threw up. All purées are unfortunately not equal at this stage—the more dense (like meat and eggs) the more likely you will be to have issues with sticking/sliming in your throat.

I'm in week 6 and I still cannot handle eggs or chicken. Maybe it's what you're trying to eat right now.. Hope it gets better for you.

I was told by the team that I work with that if I get that stuck feeling NOT to drink anything but to walk. Might take 20 minutes but it will move. You do want to wait the 30 minutes after eating before drinking.

I got that "stuck" feeling when I ate too fast. I walked it off and promised myself that I would eat slower. Easier said than done. I've been a fast eater all of my life so it took over six months to slow my eating down. Also, if the food is too dense for me then I get that stuck feeling as well.

Thank you.. I use to have the lap band and drinking something warm helped. But maybe not so much with the sleeve.

That's my problem, eating too fast. I'm still learning to take it slow. It definitely causes problems for me. At least I know now that it takes other people some time to learn this stuff too.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
