I’m into my pre op diet, good thing I started on Friday. Today, I’m tired and have been resting. They said it should only last a few days. Can someone tell me their experience with pre op diet. Strangely enough, I have not been hungry. Drinking Premier Protein 3X’s a day, Water, and broth.

I was tired the first week too on my pre op diet. It gets better, I think your body has to adjust to running on less calories maybe. That's what I told myself anyways lol

I have lost 14 pounds in 6 days. I'm barely able to function at this point. I'm worried how bad it will get with one week of no nutrition. Not allowed vit clear liquids after surgery. When is yours?

Can anyone share their menu schedule for pre op diet? I put myself on one because for some reason my doctor did not put me on one. My surgery is scheduled for March 11 so two weeks away. He only said the 24 hours prior to surgery to go on liquid diet. But I'm over 50 BMI and I feel like I need to do this.

I'm also on 3/11 but I'm going with gastric bypass. I've just dropped another 5 lbs! I got my pre-op diet today (last visit before surgery). Here is the sum up:

2-3 Protein Shakes per day, making sure you get 60 grams of liquid Protein per day.

Can also have baked or grilled chicken, turkey, lean meat or fish as well as steamed or fresh vegetables and fresh fruit.

Avoid all dairy except what is in your protein shakes.

No eggs

Season with herbs & spices, lemon juice or vinegar but avoid Condiments, dressings, fats and oils.

2 full days prior to surgery,

stop all meat, change over to broth Soups

continue shakes

continue veggies and fruits.

Now, prior to this I was pretty much eating like this (not the shakes) for the last month and I lost 20 lbs. I was eating about 75 grams of protein, 100 grams of carb and 30 grams of fat for 1000 calories per day.

Since the pre-op diet didn't specify quantities on the meat, veggies and fruit, I figure as long as I stay within the last month diet limits I'll be ok. I started a month ago at 277, 5'4" with a BMI of 47.5.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
