Nut butter - peanut

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am wondering what other’s plans tell them about nut butters. Specifically freshly ground ones that are just that...no additives. I made a shake today with half a banana, a premier chocolate shake and around 1 TBSP of ground Peanut Butter from Whole Foods. Seems to be fine so far and everything I have read is conflicting but seems to warn against just eating peanut butter and the like due to its stickiness. I know it’s a little higher in fat and carbs but I am sick of shakes and needed a change. Just curious - I can also ask my dietician but it’s the weekend and I don’t really want to bother her about peanut butter :)

thanks!!

Most people use this for that peanutbuttery flavor in their shakes.

Thanks. I have some of that in my cupboard actually but I was really just curious about real peanut or other nut butters and others experiences with them. This is a good alternative though for sure. Thanks again :)

I buy natural Peanut Butter only (Laura Scudder) and since it is only peanuts and salt with no additives. I enjoy it on some celery occasionally or just on a spoon. I probably did not introduce it until 4 months post op or so and it does not cause me any problems.

I had RNY about a month before you and I've had regular Peanut Butter with no problemo. It dilutes and works itself right down the pipes just fine. It just has lots of fat and calories but shouldn't be a problem in moderation.

Thank you. I will definitely hold off before I have it plain but it hasn’t bothered me yet being mixed in with something. It won’t be an every day thing though for sure.

Exactly why I won’t have it often. It was a welcome change today though. I just have to adjust what I eat the rest of the day to keep my fats lower. Calories - still not an issue because I can’t eat a ton, but I don’t want to have too much fat.

I was allowed Peanut Butter on a spoon after Day 10, no issues with it. I was cleared for toast (40 calorie light wheat toast) after one month and I have a slice with "Naturally More" PB (PB with added flax and pea protein) for Breakfast almost every morning. It settles my iffy morning stomach and keeps me full until lunch. I don't like PB flavored shakes but if I did I would probably use PB2 for that, less calories.

My plan and team was fine with it as long as it didn't cause any I'll effect on me. I remember that they did prefer the PB2 powder for making shakes.

I had to make certain that nut butters (all nuts really) was measured correctly because the cals sneak up on you.

I, too, tend to get mine fresh ground with zero additives from whole foods, local co-op/ green grocer or premade from Trader Joe's (house brand) or in a pinch Crazy Richard brand from Walmart

Safe journey!

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
