Help with my appeal

Recommended Posts

My insurance company is giving me grief. They are calling LapBand experimental for someone with my BMI ( mine is like 68.5..they say it is experimental over 50). I am compiling statistics for my appeal. They basically want me to prove them wrong, that it can work for someone my size.

So if you had a starting BMI of 50 or more and you would like to help me all I ask for is the following:

Your name: first name and last initial is fine.

State:

Age:

Height:

Weight on day of surgery:

BMI day of surgery:

Date of your surgery:

Current weight:

Current BMI:

If you care to help I would really appreciate it. You can post the replies here or you can email them to me at kathyluvsnick@aol.com. Thanks a lot!!

Most insurance companies follow the guidlines of the American Bariatric Society as far as apprpriate criteria for who should or should not obtain bariatric surgery. My suggestion would be to check out the website of the ABS and see if there are any studues w/results about the efficaciy of lap-band in folks with higher BMIs. Hope this helps.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
