LindseyAnn, Thank you for your wisdom on the intubation process. So far I have not heard any real horror stories.

As far as the liquid diet, I never thought I would make it through 3 weeks. The only thing questionable I am eating is string cheese (mozarella0. One of the nurses said it was okay.

Oh well....here goes...counting the days

Hello all. I am new to this site, so I hope I am doing this right. I am getting "banded" on November 20th, Tuesday. I know I am doing the right thing, but I am a nervous wreck. Any words of wisdom? Anyone getting this done on the same date?

:help:

Hi! I was banded Nov. 6, take a deep breath and relax. I was banded in Birmingham, Al. It was a very nice experience. If I had pain, I took the medicine and then I was fine. Know that this is the beginning of a great new journey. Believe in your decision and know that it was right. good luck and God bless!

Congrats on your decision. By now, the first couple folks have had their surgery. I hope all is going well. I had a lot of pain and my stomach was very upset. The intubations tube (in and out) was done while I was out because I don't recall it.

Anyway, originally I said I would have extra skin taken off and a boob lift when I lose all of the weight. Two days after surgery I told my husband he will have to be happy with a saggy bag of skin because I would never have another elective surgery. Now that I am 13 days out, feeling FRIGGIN FANTASTIC, I say, bring on the weight loss and the excess skin and boob lift will happen....

Good luck to you all, we are all here if you need us...

Welcome to all of you new bandsters!

I'm sending positive thoughts to all of you! Good luck with your procedure!

Be sure to follow all of your doctor's orders. Don't hesitate to call him/her if you have any questions or if anything seems unusual.

Best wishes on your journey to becoming bootylicious! LOL

Did my surgery on 20th. However it was not completed due to complications during the surgery. My blood oxygen concentration plummeted about 3/4 of the way thru, they were not sure why,so they pulled the plug. For the next couple of weeks they will investigate why this happened and re-do it around late next month or early January. The chief culprit they say could be a blood clot breaking away from the legs.

I'm not scared to go back. I will definetly go back because to me it's either live a long healthy life or die a quick peaceful death. I can't continue to live at 350 and counting. I know they will figure out why this happened and I'm positive that more pre-cautions will be taken next time around. Another patient had it done the same day and she is doing fine, but still in hospital, however I'm home,up and about and she is still under the doctor's watch until today. I spoke to her this morning and she is fine.

I hope everyone else had a good surgery.

Sorry to hear what happened to you. Even though you sound positive, it must have been disappointing to come out of it knowing that you have to go back. Lucky they realised that there was a problem before they went any further. Good luck with your new date! :)

sometimes the lord knows best there is some reason that you were not able to finish you will be that much ready next time ! i too had low blood oxygen but this was after surgery i had a ton of complications that i would never wish on anyone so i think that this kept you from being in alot of trouble later it was very hard for me and i thought honest to God that i was going to die the first week of my surgery so someitmes theres a great reason for things working out the way they do good luck !

Thanks sades and jamie,it was disappointing at first, but when I realise what the alternative could have been, that quickly dissipated. I'm just glad that they didn't say that they're not gonna try again. That would have dashed my hopes.

That's true. I guess I'm seeing it from my point of view, after all the anxiety & elation prior ... wouldn't want to go through that again. Keep us posted.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
