robynsch 9 Posted February 21, 2019 Is doing a 6 month supervised diet a stipulation of coverage? Or can you get approved without the 6 month supervised diet? Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app
catwoman7 11,221 Posted February 21, 2019 that's totally up to your insurance company. Some require it, some don't. The only way to know for sure is to call them 2 SeattleLady and Briswife15 reacted to this
naiad 51 Posted March 30, 2019 Is doing a 6 month supervised diet a stipulation of coverage? Or can you get approved without the 6 month supervised diet? Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile appMine required it! I have uhc and I had 6 months of dietician visits and a required weight loss designated by the surgeon. jaytissle55 180 Posted March 30, 2019 Mine was 3 visits with surgeon office and a host of other testing, so I had my initial consult on 1/10/2019 and surgery scheduled for 5/13/2019.
Alwzla8 155 Posted March 30, 2019 My insurance did not require any pre approval diet, just to qualify for the BMI
Pamela Stanley 1 Posted March 31, 2019 I was denied by BCBS and am wondering if anyone else was. If so were you able to get approval a second time?

Frustr8 7,886 Posted March 31, 2019 I wonder also, my guess would be for dropping below a 40 BMI. BCBS is infamous for taking premium money in and not paying out for the most ludicrous reasoning! In my area of the country it is Anthem BCBS, We even have a little ditty about it! "Making sure we all get screwed That's what Anthem BCBS Do! " And in this case instead of LOL it's COL! Pamela Stanley 1 Posted March 31, 2019 my BMI was below 40 but I have High Blood pressure. My BMI is 41 now. I have done everything required and hoping for approval the next time it is submitted. 1 Frustr8 reacted to this

Alwzla8 155 Posted April 1, 2019 I also have BCBS and my BMI was 39.1 and no other qualifiers I unfortunately gained a few pounds which put me higher but I got approval with 39.9 thank god.
TracyS 62 Posted April 1, 2019 I didn't need to do that with Kaiser. Each insurance is different. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

They apparently wanted me to FAIL to lose 10% of my body weight in 6 months. I continued my monthly visits which proved that the weight comes right back and insurance approved me the second time. 1 Alwzla8 reacted to this
