It may work for many people but it was not gastroprotective for me. And I have been on Carafate(sucalfate) since last October trying to heal all the ulceration I have. I'm on Medicare/ Medicaid myself so I have 2 special target days each month, the 3rd for Social Security and the 6th when my food stamp card reloads. Not how I expected to spend my 70s but one does what one must to keep alive and kicking. My ulcers are primarily in my jejuneu(small intestine- second segment) right subcostal pain, was worried it was my liver, Dr Noria,my surgeon's partner, said Nope, Liver is fine and dandy, it's those ulcers. I also have a tempermental pouch with some ulceration and a stricture of the opening. Precious Pouch keeps me on a liquid/very pureed diet, vomited yesterday, vomited today from well- chewed roast chicken. Hope my Protein levels are still okay enough to heal. I am stuck between what my doctors say I should be able to eat and what she actually permits. So I stir Protein Powder in most everything, Miralax my shakes and hope I don't get constipated from the Iron in my Vitamins. I had to have an Iron INFUSION in March as well as a anti- osteoporosis INFUSION. That's only once a year but my iron may be every 3-4 months depending on my blood levels. Sounds like I have a lot on my plate? Well I still am healthier than before surgery, and the things they find? We are getting these blips on the radar fixed before they get worse. Still a pretty good life, I keep losing weight down I might make Onederland on or just after my 1 year anniversary in September. That's a goal I can endorse!😝🍀 I sure hope you get better. I know all about weighing the good and the not so good. I have hope a job is coming soon. Also I will start getting some unemployment payments next Friday. I have used GoodRX before and it really helped.

Tracy725 21 Posted April 30, 2019 I think I might have an ulcer and stricture. What are the symptoms of both.May 26,2018,it will be 4 years since my surgery.
Frustr8 7,886 Posted April 30, 2019 Read over my postings and you'll see. Epigastric pain, inability to retain your foods, when you're not vomiting you are still nauseous. I manage to keep my meds and Vitamins down but anything but liquids, Soups and thin purees, forget about it! And yes ulcers hurt, and an inflamed pouch is miserable too, sometimes I rub it gently to reassure it YOu GOT TO DO WHAT YOU GOT TO DO. And I have been on this whirlwind about 7 of my 8 months out, they seem to want 1 more endoscopy and they feel I am no longer inflamed so maybe my pinhole will be of the past, and the balloon will stretch my stoma to the right size for efficient drainage. It has been a war but maybe peace threaties will be signed.

Briswife15 890 Posted May 1, 2019 I think I might have an ulcer and stricture. What are the symptoms of both.May 26,2018,it will be 4 years since my surgery.Hi, Tracy725. I just had an endoscopy for my stricture, which is severe, and it was all ulcerated as well. I had RNY gastric bypass a month ago. There are early and late strictures. Early usually happen 3-4 weeks post surgery. My symptoms are tremendous pressure in my pouch, and a feeling like I need to throw up, and a feeling like I ate an entire pizza, along with severe reflux. I couldn't tolerate purees or liquids. The opening from my pouch to my small intestine was only as wide as a pin. No wonder nothing was getting through! I hope you don't have a stricture or an ulcer!!Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

BariatricBarb 84 Posted May 6, 2019 I was just diagnosed with a marginal ulcer. I am 2 months out tomorrow. I haven’t had nausea or vomiting either. Just a searing pain under my sternum a couple of inches. I feel dizzy when the pain hits. It hurts to even touch my abdomen. Taking omeprazol and carafate for the next 2 months. But I feel fortunate after reading some of your stories. Best of luck and healing to you all.
Frustr8 7,886 Posted May 7, 2019 Welcome to Ulcers Are Us! We do have Jackets but it hurts too much to put them on and off! Hope yours resolves soon, mine have been over 6 months, one more endoscopy to check on the state of healing, surgeon has raised the question of further surgical intervention. And I have been on a PPI. daily and Carafate every 6 hours, (6am,Noon, 6pm and midnight) solidly since October 12th. A long time fighting the war, on liquid- thin puree diet the whole time, feel sometimes like it will be forever and forever! 💦 1 BariatricBarb reacted to this
Frustr8 7,886 Posted May 9, 2019 And the 7th was my middle child's birthday. He would have been 43 but he became an angel 11 years ago last January 11th. Losing a child. or grandchild is especially hard, it is not the way Life should be and even if they are an adult or near-adult your arms ache to hold them and you no longer can, all you have is empty air and memories. You may get PAST it but you NEVER get over it, no matter what those around you may say. There will always be a hole therem
