Salt and Artificial Sweetener

Recommended Posts

Has anyone been told that they need to keep salt and artificial sweeteners to a minimum after bypass? My partner and I disagree (I'm the one who is arguing in favor of salt and sweeteners, because they would go a long way in making food taste better.) I'd like to hear your thoughts!

I had sleeve done so i don't know if it matters. I use a ton of artificial sweetener. I was diabetic pre surgery sooooo... its just easier. Less guilt for me. I usually use it for my coffee. I make a big water bottle of iced coffee for my work days. With unsweetened vanilla almond milk, sugar free Creamer and like 16 sweetener packets. I have a horrible sweet tooth. Trying to break it.

Well, Torriluv, I certainly like your answer, right or wrong! 🙂

I'm assuming the sugar-free pudding, popsicles, etc. all have artificial sweetener as well.

I’m pre-surgery so of course I have no real clue. But I love artificial sweeteners and my nutritionist says I can keep using them post surgery. I could never get all my Water without drink drops to flavor my water

Thanks, Nash! That will honestly make life much easier for me after surgery. One of the foods our nutritionist recommends is unsweetened, fat-free Greek yogurt. I simply can't get it down without a few packets of Sweet N' Low!

Thankies. And yup yup. Anything that says 0 sugar more than likely has artificial sweeteners. Unless it just has no sweetness at all. I should get those drink drops for flavoring Water. I drink a lot of crystal light but i need other quicker options...hmmm...[emoji848]

there's no medical reason why you can't use them. Some people don't tolerate artificial sweeteners well - they give them gastric upset - but a lot of us have no problems with them. I've never heard of any issues with salt.
