Calories at Starbucks

Recommended Posts

Hope there isn't anyone here who regularly eats Starbucks' pastries. Has anyone else checked out the calorie content of them? OUt of all the varieties available at my local Starbucks, there are only three with fewer than 360 calories. The pastry with the fewest calories (chocolate fudge brownie) still had 280. That's a MAJOR portion of calories, leaving relatively few calories for the rest of the day, especially when you consider the portion size. And if you pair it with a drink, unless you get non-fat/sugar-free variety (other than plain coffee or cappucino), you're adding at least 100-150 calories, maybe as many as 700 (for the venti white chocolate frappucino creme with whipped topping).

Believe me, if you want to remain in the dark about Starbucks' calories, you don't want to go to their site.

:) thanks a lot!

Actually, I had my "one last frappacino" before surgery, except it wasn't really the last one. I've had one tall, fat free since. I couldnt' drink it all.

I love Starbucks and that's been the best habit to kick. Both financially and health wise.

Oh, I despair at the growing popularity of Starbucks and its copy cat Gloria Jeans in Australia.

Australia has always been very European in its coffee tastes. A latte is 1/3 strong espresso topped with steamed skim milk. Served in a glass. Takeaway cups are just that, cups, not buckets. Confectionary coffees did not exist until the last few years.

Not that they're not delicious now and then, lol, but boy oh boy, the last thing an increasingly obese population needs is hugely fattening milky coffees when we've always been perfectly satisfied by Italian style coffee - long blacks, lattes, cappucinos (which is just a latte with more milk froth) and flat whites.

I try not to go near. And I wouldnt dare LOOK at a pastry, lol.

Your right, I will now order iced beverages because cold beverages are much better than hot beverages when spilled on the boobs...

(yes, I did! thank you for reminding me, I meant to let you know and I have to go reply to her last PM.)

Screw the confectionary coffees. I was desperate for a plain coffee with half and half to go when I was in Italy last month. They do have some horrid stuff that they call Cafe Americano. You can not get a cup regular coffee to go in a paper cup anywhere in Italy. Starbucks would make a killing in Rome just on the tourists alone. But the Italians are not going to allow that and I can't say that I blame them. They want their culture to stay Italian and not be Americanized. But tell that to my head when it want what it wants. Next time I bring my own coffee and coffee pot.

Up until a few weeks ago I never so much as looked twice at a Starbucks. For one, even though I think it smells divine, I am not fond of coffee. I like the flavor in some things, like ice cream, but I don't like the drink. For two, it intimidates me to go into places and not know the "lingo" (I think it comes from being assaulted by the Gates' cashier - anyone who has been there knows what I mean) -- and I certainly never studied Starbuck-ese.

Then a few weeks ago I was shopping with a friend and he wanted his doublehalffatcaramelmochiattaspressochipberry surprise. And they had these litte samples on the counter. Something green. So I tasted it, and was introduced to the Green Tea Frappucino Light. And we've been dear friends ever since.

I live on their unsweetened passion iced tea. No calories and it's delicious. Their pastries always taste like cardboard, so they don't ever tempt me when I go in for the tea. If I'm going to cheat, I want something GOOD. :)

I like their vanilla lattes. And they aren't too bad, calorie-wise. At least, I can easily allow for them in my daily calories on some days. I don't get them every day, but I do go a couple times a week, most often when I have to make the hour-long early morning drive on Fridays in order to teach.

I love the atmosphere of Starbucks. I love the smell and the coziness of it especially in the wintertime. We don't go in often but when we do, I love sitting at one of their little tables or in a comfortable chair just shooting the breeze. It's one of my simple pleasures in life. I usually get a nonfat latte so calories are that much a prob except my husband HATES their coffee (thinks it's way too strong) so he usually gets one of their high calorie foo foo drinks which he doesn't really need AT ALL!

I wouldn't touch their pastries, but I do like their black iced tea (with 1 Splenda) or a fat-free latte. I have NO guilt.

It's funny....people think nothing of drinking a 200 calorie Protein Drink (or more once they add the Peanut Butter, banana, chocolate, etc. ) but they won't drink a latte. A grande non-fat latte has about 160 calories, and 18g of Protein. More protein than a regular Slim-fast.

The rest of my day I get my protein in food, but I love my hot morning drink. I take any pills that I need to take with it, and I can drink it on my way to work, and it actually lasts me about 30 minutes.

I make my own at home in my to-go cup, and about once a week I hit Starbucks.

They put a starbucks in my grocery store right at the entrance. It's great, but I wish they weren't there. (I wish the candies weren't at the checkout either) I love the iced coffees and figure them into my daily calories.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
